The reproducing apparatus includes: a reading unit for reading main data including audio data and/or video data, and reading sub data recorded in a separate bitstream from the main data, which is later reproduced in synchronization with the main data; and a multiplexer for multiplexing the main data and sub data read by the reading unit. Therefore, multiple bitstreams can be read and reproduced at the same time.

Abstract: A method for generating additional information for guaranteeing seamless playback of data streams includes generating data stream information for each of two or more data streams, which includes packet data to which information on an arrival time of the respective packet data is added. The data stream information includes seamless playback information, which indicates whether a corresponding data stream is to be seamlessly reproduced after playback of a preceding data stream, and/or seamless time control information for controlling an output time of the corresponding data stream to be seamlessly reproduced. Therefore, data streams can be seamlessly reproduced without interruption between the data streams, by using data stream information which includes seamless information and/or seamless time control information including reference time, an offset value and/or a gap length value.

Therefore, it is possible to include a timeshift function to reproduce recorded data and to output the reproduced data to a user while recording data according to the user's command, even when the digital recording/reproducing apparatus records data on a data storage medium without the timeshift function.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of duplicating data from a first data storage medium to a second data storage medium includes a controller which receives the data stored in the first data storage medium, duplicates the data to the second data storage medium, extracts sample data, which is used to indicate a progress in data duplication, from the data, and outputs the sample data; and a data decoder which receives, decodes, and outputs the sample data from the sample data. Accordingly, it is possible to extract and reproduce sample data from data that is being duplicated from one data storage medium to another data storage medium, during duplication of the data. For this reason, a user can easily check a progress in the data duplication and the contents of the data. Further, duplication and reproduction of data are performed at the same time thus removing boredom during the data duplication.

The method of recording video data in an information storage medium includes the steps of (a) decoding originally encoded video data, (b) re-encoding the decoded video data in a different way to the originally encoded video data, (c) generating video transform information which is to be referred to for decoding the video data into its original state, and (d) recording the generated video transform information and tho re encoded video date in the information storage medium. Accordingly, the video data can be properly reproduced even if it is re-encoded in a different way to the originally encoded video data.

Abstract: An apparatus for reproducing content recorded on an information storage medium and a method of providing bookmark information of the reproducing apparatus. Bookmark information, including an annotation input by a user with respect to selected content and a locator necessary for reproducing the selected content, is stored and sent to another reproducing apparatus through a communications link such as the Internet. Accordingly, a user can bookmark the particular location of the predetermined content, annotate the content in one reproducing apparatus and send the bookmark information for presentation on another reproducing apparatus.

Abstract: An information storage medium containing multi-language markup document information, and an apparatus for and a method of reproducing the information storage medium which includes audio/video (AV) data, multiple markup documents which contain text information to be displayed in a selected language with a video picture decoded and reproduced from the AV data, and multi-language markup document information for designating one of the multiple markup documents as a markup document in the selected language. Abstract: A method of generating information used for fast searching of packet data, a recording medium for storing the information, and a recording and/or playback apparatus using the same. Packet data is segmented into basic units of a predetermined size and basic unit information is generated for each basic unit. The basic unit information includes information indicating the arrival time of the first packet of each corresponding basic unit. This information is recorded with a data stream and used when quickly searching for a desired position during special playback such as a time search. If a fast search method such as binary searching is adopted, significantly faster searching can be realized.
