  • Patent number: 8076284
Abstract: Antimicrobial and anticancer peptides engineered using Gaegurin 5 isolated from Korean frog (Rana rugosa), which have a smaller structure compared with previously known Gaegurin peptides and show potent antimicrobial and anticancer activity. Specifically, the antimicrobial and anticancer peptides synthesized from the shortest length of Gaegurin 5, show potent antimicrobial activity against gram positive and negative strains, good safety with very low hemolytic activity and favorable advantages such as drug absorption and drug transportation due to its advantageous structural property, which can be useful as a potent antimicrobial or anticancer agent.

  • Publication number: 20110158072
Abstract: A method and apparatus to control a flying height of a head in a disk drive by detecting a flying state of the head just before it touches down to a disk. The method includes detecting approximate touch-down based on detecting a motion change of a head in a disk track direction by changing a flying height of the head on a rotating disk and determining that the head approaches a touch-down approximated flying height when the detected motion change of the head in the disk track direction exceeds a threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20100254045
Abstract: A hard disk drive with an actuator arm assembly that is coupled to a head and includes a voice coil motor. The drive also includes a drive circuit that provides a drive current to the voice coil motor to move the actuator arm assembly into contact with a magnet. The drive circuit limits an amplitude, and/or changes the pulse width, of the drive current as the actuator arm assembly approaches the magnet. Limiting the amplitude and/or changing the pulse widths reduces any audible noise associated with retracting the heads.

  • Publication number: 20100232068
Abstract: A disk hard disk drive that includes a spindle motor and an actuator arm coupled to a base plate. A plurality of disks are coupled to the spindle motor and a plurality of heads are coupled to the actuator arm and the disks. The drive also includes a cover attached to the base plate. The cover and base plate enclose a hard disk area that has a horizontal center line. The hard disk area includes a volume of air above the horizontal center line that is equal to a volume of air below the horizontal center line. The air space within the hard disk area is equal and symmetrical in a vertical direction. Such an arrangement reduces track mis-registration when servo is copied from a disk surface to the other surfaces of the disks in the drive.

  • Patent number: 7400468
Abstract: A hard disk drive with a circuit that provides a control signal to a voice coil motor to move a head across a disk. The disk drive includes a circuit that provides a control signal to the voice coil motor to move the head. The circuit also has a state predictor and an inversion filter that compute a vibration estimate used to detect a vibration in the drive. When a threshold vibration is detected a vibration estimate is combined with the control signal to compensate for the vibration. The circuit detects the vibration without the need for an accelerometer or other sensor.

  • Patent number: 7304817
Abstract: A hard disk drive that includes a voice coil motor controlled by a servo circuit. The servo circuit provides a sinusoidal driving signal that has two different harmonic frequencies. The dual harmonic waveform creates a voice coil motor jerk profile (derivative of acceleration) that is continuous. The continuous jerk profile reduces vibration and seek time of the drive.

  • Patent number: 6441987
Abstract: There is provided a method of parking a hard disk drive head, which can minimize an impact during head parking using an alternating current (AC). This method includes the steps of: determining whether no command is input during a predetermined time in a wake-up mode, or whether a power-off command is input; and moving the head to a parking area by driving an actuator to which the head is attached using an initially-set alternating current, if no command was input during the predetermined time or a power-off command was input. Accordingly, damage to the head and head suspension, caused by the collision of the head with a latch magnet because of an excess acceleration of the actuator during parking, can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6414815
Abstract: Apparatus and method of controlling the on-track position of an actuator in a hard disk drive to be held on a predetermined position of a track. The apparatus includes a voice coil motor (VCM) driving unit, a position detecting unit, and a controller. The voice coil motor (VCM) driving unit applies a predetermined current to drive a voice coil motor (VCM). The position detecting unit reads data read by a head to detect a position of the actuator. The controller disables the voice coil motor (VCM) driving unit after unlatching the actuator, and enables the voice coil motor (VCM) driving unit if the position detecting unit detects that the actuator is positioned on a predetermined track and bringing the actuator on-track depending on the output of the position detecting unit.

  • Patent number: 6072652
Abstract: A hard disk drive rapidly shakes a voice coil motor to remove a stiction error caused by a friction force between a head and a disk. A start-up oscillator generates a spindle motor rotation control frequency according to a level of a spindle motor driving control voltage and controls a rotation of a spindle motor according to the spindle motor rotation control frequency. A restart oscillator generates a restart control signal for controlling the level of the spindle motor driving control voltage to restart the rotation of the spindle motor. A resistor is interposed between the restart oscillator and ground, to allow the restart control signal to control the level of the spindle motor driving control voltage, so as to prevent the spindle motor from being restarted. A microcontroller monitors the level of the spindle motor driving control voltage to detect a stiction error and provide a voice coil with a voice coil shaking control signal upon a detection of the stiction error.
