  • Patent number: 8041134
Abstract: A motion compensation apparatus to provide block-based motion compensation, and a method thereof. A first motion compensation interpolator calculates a first interpolation pixel by reading a first and a second pixel corresponding to a motion vector of an estimated current block respectively from a current and a previous frame or field. A second motion compensation interpolator calculates a second interpolation pixel by reading a third and a fourth pixel corresponding to a motion vector of peripheral blocks adjacent to the current block respectively from the inputted current and previous frame or field. A candidate interpolation pixel calculator calculates a candidate interpolation pixel by allocating a predetermined weight to the first and the second interpolation pixels, among the current blocks. A motion analyzer analyzes the motion vectors of the current block and the peripheral blocks, and determines discontinuities between the blocks.

  • Patent number: 7336838
Abstract: A pixel-data selection device providing motion compensation, and a method thereof. A first and a second storage parts store a current frame/field including first pixel-data and a previous frame/field including second pixel-data, respectively, corresponding to at least one of the inputted candidate motion vectors. A first and a second pixel-data extraction parts extract the first and the second pixel-data corresponding to the candidate motion vector, respectively from the first and the second storage parts. A first and a second compensation pixel calculation parts calculate first and second compensation pixel-data for motion compensation, respectively, by adaptively applying a predetermined first weight according to the abstracted first and second pixel-data. Therefore, the first and the second pixel-data can be calculated based on motion trajectories of a current block to be interpolated and peripheral blocks, and thus, block artifacts can be prevented as the motion compensation is performed adaptively.

  • Publication number: 20040252764
Abstract: A motion vector generation apparatus, and a method thereof. In the apparatus, a weight calculation part can adaptively calculate a predetermined weight corresponding to at least one of respective inputted candidate motion vectors, and a final motion vector calculation part can adaptively generate a final motion vector by applying the calculated predetermined weight to at least one of the corresponding candidate motion vectors. The generated final motion vector is used for motion compensation of the current block to be interpolated. Therefore, block artifacts can be prevented by estimating a plurality of motion vectors for motion compensation and adaptively applying the weight to the estimated motion vectors.
