  • Patent number: 9476058
Abstract: Transgenic plants having increased growth rate, increased sugar content, and increase yield are disclosed, and methods for making the same. The transgenic plants have a gene coding for a phosphatase having a C-terminal motif under control of a heterologous promoter incorporated into the genomic DNA of the plant.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 15, 2013
Date of Patent: October 25, 2016
    Assignee: Versitech Limited
    Inventor: Boon Leong Lim
  • Publication number: 20160083744
Abstract: Transgenic plants having increased growth rate and increase yield are disclosed, and methods for making the same. In one embodiment, the method comprises: transforming a plant or plant cell with a nucleic acid molecule comprising a plant kinase and/or phosphatase gene selected from NG6, NG21, NG24, NG28, and NG32, and over-expressing said kinase and/or phosphatase gene in the plant or plant cell.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 18, 2015

  • Patent number: 7339091
Abstract: In this invention, two phytase genes from two generally-regarded-as-safe microorganisms, Bacillus licheniformis and Bacillus subtilis 168, were cloned and characterized. A process for phytase enzyme over-expression and purification was also developed. The enzymes have molecular weight of about 48 kilodaltons and showed extracellular phytate-hydrolyzing activities. The recombinant enzyme can be used to enhance phytase utilization in various commercial areas, including preparation of animal feed and transgenic plants that have increased growth rates for maturity, flowering and fruiting.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 19, 2002
Date of Patent: March 4, 2008
Assignee: The University of Hong Kong
Inventors: Boon Leong Lim, Wing Kin Yip
