    Abstract: According various embodiments of the present invention, methods and systems for accessing data on a storage medium of a data storage device comprise determining a file to be accessed based on a directory maintained by a host processor connected with the data storage device. One or more locations on the storage medium for data in the file to be accessed are found in a file system on the storage medium. A file location linked list is compiled based on the one or more locations on the storage medium for data in the file to be accessed. A download linked list command and the file location linked list is sent from the host to the data storage device.
