    Abstract: Provided is an ink jet ink comprised of water, a pigment, a polymeric electrolyte, preferably a sodium, potassium or lithium salt of a polymeric carboxylic acid, a polyhydric alcohol and a stearate, preferably aluminum stearate. The presence of the stearate, particularly in combination with the polymeric electrolyte, provides one with an ink jet ink which upon printing makes a perfectly round dot located only on the surface of the paper. The image also dries very quickly, is of high density and is waterfast. Printing problems are also avoided, such as plugging.The process for preparing the foregoing ink jet ink comprises comminuting a formulation containing the components followed by a separation step. The separation step is important to provide a stable dispersion of the ink formulation.

    Abstract: Provided is a composite material comprising a carrier, a conductive layer formed on the carrier, and a dielectric layer containing spacer particles formed on the conductive layer. The dielectric layer has an abrasion factor less than about 0.3 determined by a brass shim abrasion method, and a substantially uniform distribution of spacer particles substantially free of flat spots greater than about 100 microns in the x-y direction and 1500 square microns in area on any part of the surface. The spacer particles of the dielectric layer of the composite material preferably are amorphous silica. The composite material is useful in electrostatic imaging technology and provides images substantially free of defects, including artifacts or flares, dropouts and nib writing.Also provided is a process which permits the creation of very stable dispersions of solid particles in a dispersing medium useful for both the dielectric and conductive layers of the composite material of the invention.

    Abstract: Provided is a conductive coating composition which comprises a colloidal dispersion of cuprous iodide particles in a binder resin solution which contains an ohmic bridging electrolyte. The preferred ohmic bridging electrolyte is potassium iodide. The colloidal dispersion also preferably exists in an aqueous system, with the binder resin being a water soluble polymer such as a polyvinyl alcohol. Upon coating a support with the dispersion, a transparent conductive coating is achieved comprised of ohmic bridged cuprous iodide particles and the binder resin. Such a coating composition can be advantageously used in the manufacture of imaging elements, and provides many advantages in the handling and manufacture of the imaging elements, as well as in the adhesive properties exhibited by the imaging elements.

The resulting dispersion has been found to be quite stable and useful in transparent coatings applicable to electrophotography, electrostatic and thermal imaging elements.

    Abstract: Water-stable phenol-amine complexes of limited water solubility for use in a thermal-sensitive paper coating containing a chromogenic compound.The complexes contain phenolic hydroxy groups and amine groups in an essentially 2:1 ratio, the amines being low boiling amines. The phenols are of the class capable of forming amine complexes having a ratio of two hydroxyl groups for each amine group. The resulting coating compositions effectively resist premature color formation during formulation, and the coated papers produced exhibit enhanced stability.
