  • Patent number: 9331257
Abstract: A thermoelectric module includes a cold side, a hot side and thermoelectric elements disposed between the two sides. At least one heat conducting layer is disposed between the thermoelectric elements and at least the cold side or the hot side and the heat conducting layer can be compressed. A method for producing a thermoelectric module having at least one heat conducting layer is also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 26, 2013
Date of Patent: May 3, 2016
Assignees: EMITEC Gesellschaft fuer Emissionstechnologie mbH, Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Horst Poelloth, Andreas Eder, Matthias Linde, Boris Mazar, Sigrid Limbeck, Rolf Brueck
  • Patent number: 8650865
Abstract: An exhaust gas routing device for an internal-combustion engine having a thermoelectric generator is fluidically connected with an exhaust gas line and a pipe guiding a coolant. The generator has a plurality of thermoelectric yoke pairs which are arranged between a first surface heated by the exhaust gas and a second surface cooled by the coolant. The exhaust gas routing device has a device guiding the exhaust gas along the first surface at a flow velocity that increases in the flow direction of the exhaust gas.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 2, 2011
Date of Patent: February 18, 2014
    Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft

  • Publication number: 20130228204
Abstract: A semiconductor element is formed of a thermoelectric material having at least one aperture, a first end face and an opposite second end face. A cross-sectional surface which is parallel to the first end face or to the second end face extends through the thermoelectric material and through the aperture and has an area which is at most 20% greater than the first front surface and is smaller than the second end face. A thermoelectric module having at least two semiconductor elements is also provided.

  • Patent number: 8418799
Abstract: A cooling system is provided for a thermoelectric power generator and that is arranged in an exhaust gas line of an internal combustion engine for generating electric power while utilizing thermal energy of the exhaust gas. The thermoelectric power generator has its own coolant circuit, which also serves to raise the temperature of the components of the internal combustion engine, the chassis, and/or the transmission or serves to heat the passenger compartment. This offers the added utility gained from a faster temperature rise of transmission lubricants and lubricants of the internal combustion engine, as well as from heating the passenger compartment and the rear axle differential and, thus, offers a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2).
