  • Patent number: 6076588
Abstract: A control system for a vertical vane covering for use in an architectural opening includes a headrail having an upwardly opening channel in which a plurality of carriers are disposed for sliding movement along the length of the headrail. The headrail is of a thin profile with only a minority portion of the carriers being positioned within the hollow interior of the headrail. The carriers are interconnected by a scissors-type linkage to effect uniform separation of the vanes when the covering is expanded across an architectural opening and each carrier includes a rack and pinion system for rotating the vanes suspended thereby. Unique mountings for the endmost vanes allow the endmost vanes to cover the ends of the headrail.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 20, 2000
    Assignee: Hunter Douglas Inc.
Inventors: Paul G. Swiszcz, Brad H. Oberg, James M. Anthony, Wendell B. Colson, David G. Mateer
  • Patent number: 5853039
Abstract: A coupler for use with the tilt wand and pull cord of a window treatment system includes a cylindrical body having a longitudinal passageway adapted to receive the tilt wand and a pair of parallel longitudinal channels adapted to receive the pull cord. The longitudinal passageway communicates with an enlarged pocket adapted to receive a collar fixedly mounted to the tilt wand. The coupler encircles the tilt wand and is fixed to the tilt wand at a position along the length of the tilt wand to maintain a taut condition in the pull cord.

  • Patent number: 5845690
Abstract: Various systems for attaching flexible fabric material to rigid vanes in the construction of window coverings are disclosed. The various systems for attaching the fabric material to the vanes create varying aesthetic patterns while providing long-term durability. The systems described can be used to connect single or double sheets of fabric material to the faces of rigid vanes while enabling the vanes to be oriented vertically or horizontally.

  • Patent number: 5454414
Abstract: A window blind material and window blind assembly is formed by a front sheet and a rear sheet, both of translucent or transparent light transmitting material. A plurality of spaced, intermediate, parallel, preferably opaque or semi-opaque, vanes are secured between the sheets. The vanes can be positioned to control the transmission of light by movement of the sheets relative to one another. A tilt member connected to the sheets is rotated to position the sheets and vanes. A bottom rail is secured to the sheets.

  • Patent number: 5392832
Abstract: A covering for an architectural opening such as a window or door is in the form of a vertically oriented fabric assembly having front and rear sheer fabrics interconnected by vertically extending vanes. The vanes can be tilted through a series of carriers mounted on a track rail from which the covering is suspended in order to adjust the spacing between the fabrics between open and closed positions and adjust the light transmitting characteristics of the covering. The covering can be extended across the opening by separating the carriers on the track rail and can be contracted by stacking the carriers toward one end of the track rail. A unique design of carrier allows the covering to fold on itself in the contracted state, in the manner of a conventional drape.
