  • Publication number: 20090266012
Abstract: A shutter assembly for protecting an opening in a structure. The shutter assembly includes a first shutter and a second shutter. Each of the shutters have an attachment end and a free end and defining a width between the corresponding attachment end and the corresponding free end and each present an outer surface. An impact-resistant sheet is disposed on each outer surface. A plurality of hinges are adapted to pivotally couple each shutter to the structure at the attachment end for allowing the shutter to pivot between an open position and a closed position. A crossbar is sized to span the first shutter and the second shutter and terminate at or before the attachment ends of the shutters. A plurality of studs are disposed in linear alignment across the shutters. The crossbar is adapted to engage the studs for securing the shutters in the closed position.

  • Publication number: 20090158789
Abstract: A lockable shutter assembly has first and second shutters mounted operatively to a building and movable between open and closed positions. The locking assembly includes a bracket member that extends longitudinally along a gap formed between the shutters when in the closed position. The bracket member is mounted at its respective ends to top and bottom portions of a shutter opening via mounting plates. The bracket member includes at least one through bore formed along the length of the bracket member. A selectively releasable interlock member is slidably received in the through bore. The locking device can releasably engage the bracket member and/or the interlock member. Another interlock member can be used to secure the locking device to the bracket member.

  • Publication number: 20090160200
Abstract: A locking assembly for retaining a pair of shutters in a closed position on a dwelling, including an elongate backing bracket adapted to be fixedly mounted to the dwelling, the backing bracket including a pair of support portions extending laterally relative to the length of the backing bracket, and an outer locking portion. The shutters in their closed position are in abutting contact with the support portions, the outer locking portion extends through a gap defined between adjacent edges of the closed pair of shutters. The locking assembly further includes an elongate retention bracket having a channel in which the outer locking portion is received, and a pair of retention portions extending laterally relative to the length of the retention bracket, the outer locking portion adapted to be secured to the retention bracket within the channel.

  • Publication number: 20080110218
Abstract: A locking shutter assembly includes a pair of shutters for attachment to a building structure. A pair of retention brackets extend between a first and a second end. One of the retention brackets are attached to a respective shutter at each end with a pair of opposing clips. Each retention bracket defines a passage and a rigidity member is slidably disposed in the passage to interconnect the retention brackets and restrain movement of the shutters with respect to the structure during inclement weather.

  • Publication number: 20080053010
Abstract: A lockable shutter assembly has first and second shutters mounted operatively to a building and movable between open and closed positions. A locking device of the assembly has a bracket that extends longitudinally along a gap formed between the shutters when in the closed position. The bracket is supported slidably by the first shutter via a sliding coupling and regardless of shutter position. A releasable interlock of the locking device is carried between the bracket and the second shutter and generally operates between released and locked states. The assembly is placed into the locked state by movement of the bracket when the shutters are in the closed position.

  • Publication number: 20080005968
Abstract: A shutter assembly (24) mounts to a structure (20) and provides storm and security protection to an opening (22). The assembly comprises an upper track (28) and a lower track (30) each extending between first and second proximal and distal ends (34, 38), respectively. A pair of decorative shutters (26) are spaced from one another and disposed adjacent to the tracks (28, 30). A plurality of panel assemblies (46) are in sliding engagement with the upper and lower tracks (28, 30) for covering the opening (22) and each comprises upper and lower rails (52, 54) and a pair of stiles (56) extending therebetween and a panel (58). The panel (58) defines a retention portion (66) disposed along side edges (64) extending outwardly from a plane (68) of the panel (58). Each of the stiles (56) define a stile channel (72) having a configuration corresponding to the retention portion (66) to create an interference fit between the stile channel (72) and the panel (58) for allowing movement when the panel (58) flexes.

  • Publication number: 20060236622
Abstract: A storm panel assembly mounts on a structure adjacent an opening. The storm panel assembly comprises a frame having a flange for securing the frame to the structure and defines a channel having a locking tab and a first locking surface. A panel having an outer periphery is supported by the frame and a retention portion is disposed adjacent the outer periphery such that the retention portion is received within the channel. A locking insert having a second locking surface for mating with the first locking surface biases the retention portion into contact with the locking tab to secure the panel within the frame.
