Abstract: An apparatus for supporting an object at a controllable depth within a fluid features buoyant and ballast devices connected to a device for supporting the object. The opposing buoyant and gravitational forces acting on the support device cause it to maintain a generally constant orientation in the fluid and recover from deviations therefrom. The buoyant device has a variable buoyancy that can be controlled in order to control the depth at which the object is supported. A control device allows the user to raise, lower or maintain the vertical position of the object within the fluid.
