Patent number: 11394669Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for assisting participation in a social network. In one aspect, a method is performed by a system of one or more data processing devices. The method includes receiving, at the system, a historical record of message exchange between an individual and members in a member network, the system determining, for each of the members, whether the individual is likely to want to be related to the respective member, each determination considering the number and transactional characteristics of the message exchange between the individual and the respective member in the historical record, and the system outputting the determinations that the individual is likely to want to be related to at least two of the respective members.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2017Date of Patent: July 19, 2022Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Brian Stoler, Neilfred Picciotto, Joseph Rozier, John A. Patent number: 9485285Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for assisting the authoring of posts to an asymmetric social network. In one aspect, a method performed by a system of one or more data processing devices includes receiving, at the system, an identification of an electronic document that is available on the Internet, the system identifying image content in the electronic document, the system filtering the identified image content, the system triggering presentation of the filtered image content to an author of a post to an asymmetric social network, the system receiving a selection of a first image from amongst the presented image content, and the system adding the first image to a post to the asymmetric social network.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 2013Date of Patent: November 1, 2016Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Samuel Shoji Fukujima Goto, Joseph Rideout, Braden F. Patent number: 9411492Abstract: In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products. A display for a particular contact record is presented. The display includes a name for a particular contact and a generic input area. Each of a plurality of contact records identifies a name for a contact, and each of the plurality of contact records is configured to store multiple entries that each include a value and a field type from a plurality of field types. User input of information using the generic input area is received. A field type from the plurality of field types is determined based on matching semantics of the received user input. The determining occurs without receiving user input specifically identifying the matching field type. The determined field type and the received user input is stored as an entry for the particular contact record.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2013Date of Patent: August 9, 2016Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: David S. Young, Michael H. Leggett, Braden F. Kowitz, Benjamin Grol

Patent number: 8732597Abstract: A system that displays content on a computer display. During operation, the system displays the content items within a display area on the computer display, wherein content items surrounding a current point of interest are displayed within a visible region of the display area. If the visible region has insufficient space to display some of the content items, the system selects a portion of the content items to be collapsed. Next, the system collapses the selected content items into one or more folds within the display area, wherein a fold is a compact representation of a contiguous group of adjacent content items and is located in place of the contiguous group of adjacent content items. For each fold, the system then displays a summary of the collapsed content items in the fold.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2006Date of Patent: May 20, 2014Assignee: Oracle America, Inc.Inventors: Frank E. Ludolph, Braden F. Kowitz, Jacob E. Pierson, Jessica F. Smith, Aditya S. Chand, Chirag Nangia

Publication number: 20100131529Abstract: Methods, computer program products, and systems related to providing gadgets that generate content based on entities extracted according to patterns defined by extractors are provided. A plurality of distinct extractors that define patterns for identifying entities in text are received from a plurality of users. The extractors are stored in a repository. The pattern defined by each of the extractors is processed into a pattern matching engine. The extractors are made available for subscription from a first user subscribing to a first extractor. A modification indication is received from a composition program regarding a first document of a first user, and in response to receiving the modification indication, the pattern matching engine corresponding to the first extractor is applied to the first document and identifies a first entity. The first entity is provided to a first software gadget that presents information relating to the first entity to the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2008Publication date: May 27, 2010Inventors: Vishal Kasera, Stanley Chen, Wojtek Skut, Umesh Patil, Braden F.
