  • Patent number: 9528724
Abstract: The present invention relates to apparatus and methods for configuring and arranging heliostats for use in a solar power system. The present invention seeks to improve the overall energy harvesting capacity of a heliostat system while using minimal land area and providing maximum access paths. The present invention teaches that, instead of raising the height of the tower or spacing heliostats according to a rigid schedule, it may be advantageous to vary the height of individual mirrors within a heliostat group, thus mitigating blocking while nonetheless permitting adjacent rows of heliostats to be placed close to one another.

  • Publication number: 20130246170
Abstract: Embodiments of a search engine are disclosed that enable authors and third parties to influence the persistence and ranking of the author or the author's posts in search result listings using a bidding process or other compensation-based mechanism. In one embodiment, the search engine allows authors to submit bids in auction for ranking in order to keep their posts (or posts of other authors) visible to targeted searchers for a longer period of time than would normally be available. The bid amount, together with other attributes, can be used to determine the relevance and ranking of posts or authors provided in a search results page to a searcher. Embodiments of the search engine may be utilized with a microblogging service or a social networking service.

  • Publication number: 20070188876
Abstract: A hybrid optical component that collects and concentrates incident light. The hybrid component includes both refractive and reflective elements. In preferred embodiments, refractive and reflective components focus rays on a common focal plane generally located at the bottom of the reflector where they are absorbed by a device such as a photovoltaic (solar) cell. Additionally, the optical component combines both imaging and non-imaging optical elements into a single device, for improved overall performance.
