    Abstract: A deformation element for use in a motor vehicle dashboard includes first and second slidably interlocked deformation members. The deformation element includes first and second deformation cavities which may deform in sequential stages, or concurrently, upon the application of a load along a deformation axis of the deformation member. The first and second deformation members may be formed from stamped steel and have substantially identical shapes, requiring only one stamping form.
