  • Patent number: 6792975
Abstract: A solenoid control valve having a spool valve disposed within a valve body and an enlarged diameter, axially sealing land. An upper surface of the sealing land seats against an upper valve stop when the spool valve is in a first sealing position and a lower surface of the sealing land seats against a lower valve stop when the spool valve in a second sealing position, to provide sealing pressure in an axial direction relative to the movement of the spool valve. The control valve includes an actuating portion having a coil and an armature. The armature is in direct contact with the spool valve, preferably through a stem that extends through the upper valve stop. When the coil is not energized, a valve spring biases the spool valve to seat against the upper valve stop so that a source pressure is provided at a control port.

  • Patent number: 6687553
Abstract: A method for controlling a solenoid using a single coil solenoid for both course and fine adjustment. A resistor or series of resistors may be used in parallel/for current controlled solenoids or in series for voltage controlled solenoids for allowing course or finite control of the solenoids.

  • Patent number: 6029703
Abstract: A solenoid control valve (10) that includes an electromagnetic coil (30) positioned within a housing (16) and a spool valve (72) positioned within a central bore (70) of a valve body (20). An armature (40) is axially positioned within the coil (30) and an armature spring (52) biases the armature (40) against an opening in the central bore (70) when the coil (30) is not energized. The spool valve (72) includes an internal chamber and a pair of sealing lands (98,100) that selectively seal a supply port (92) and a control port (94) within the valve body (20). A pole piece (26), including an annular flux shunt portion (62), is threadably engaged with the housing (16) to control a working air gap (60) between the pole piece (26) and the armature (40). The flux shunt portion (62) more radially directs the electromagnetic field lines to weaken the magnetic force as the armature (40) moves closer to the pole piece (26).

  • Patent number: 5957161
Abstract: A solenoid operated control valve (10) including a housing (16) that defines an internal chamber (34) therein, where an electromagnetic coil (44) is coaxially mounted within the internal chamber (34). A tubular shaped movable armature (60) is positioned within the internal chamber (34). An armature spring (72) biases the armature (60) to a first position within the internal chamber (34) when the coil (44) is not energized, and the armature (60) moves to a second position against the bias of the spring (72) when the coil (44) is energized. The armature (60) contacts a first armature stop (76) when it is in the first position and contacts a second armature stop (92) when it is in the second position. Both the first and second armature stops (76, 92) include radially extended protrusions (100) in order to minimize hydraulic tension.

  • Patent number: 5899436
Abstract: A dual gain pressure control solenoid having two individually wound coils. One coil has a greater number of turns than the other coil and operates as a high force coil. The coil with a lesser number of turns operates as a low force coil. The low force coil provides improved resolution over a predetermine range of input current, while the high force coil provides less resolution but greater force. The coils may be used in various operational modes in order to achieve improved resolution over a predetermined current range.

  • Patent number: 5606992
Abstract: An armature has an inner chamber which becomes effective to delay the otherwise full fluid force against such armature thereby enabling the armature to more readily move closer, in a shorter period of time, to the associated pole piece.
