  • Patent number: 6634898
Abstract: A telecommunications server comprises a switch/larch mechanism for use in online removal or insertion of a peripheral card, such as a PCI card. A bulkhead is adapted for mating engagement with a bulkhead mounting bracket of the peripheral card when the peripheral card is installed in the switch/latch mechanism. A doorbell switch having a vertical range of motion is manually depressed to signal the server and commence an orderly shutdown of the peripheral card in advance of online replacement of the peripheral card. A panel switch provides a mechanical lock retaining the peripheral card in place, and also function as a backup power interrupt device to protect the peripheral card in the event that depression of the doorbell button does not result in an orderly shutdown of the peripheral card.

  • Patent number: 6616252
Abstract: A chassis for use in housing heavy electrical equipment is provided with lifting devices for attachment of the chassis to a telescoping rail assembly, such as may be found on a conventional EIA equipment rack. The chassis includes a housing with a sidewall having a recessed wall to which handles and support brackets are permanently attached. The handles are hingedly connected to the recessed wall and may be pivoted over an arc between an extended position that is suitable for lifting operations and a retracted position adjacent the recessed wall. The support brackets may be selectively rotated between an assembly position that supports the chassis atop the telescoping rail assembly and a position of normal use that does not interfere with depthwise extensile and de-extensile motion of the telescoping rail assembly and chassis.

  • Publication number: 20030163905
Abstract: A clip fastener includes a base and a clip head that is distant from the base. The clip head includes a barb having a rounded outer surface including a ramp that increases in diameter towards the base. An elongate clip neck connects the base with the clip head. The clip neck has sufficient resilience under compressive forces exerted on the rounded outer surface of the barb to permit movement of the barb. The clip may be formed as an individual unit for use in fastening operations, or it may be molded into component structures, such as fan carriers for computer fans.

  • Patent number: 6583357
Abstract: A cable retention device includes a conduit that is joined to an end plate forming a continuous passage through the conduit. Cable shielding is clamped to the conduit to establish a pathway to ground. The end plate presents a shoulder face that is inserted into a guide rail clamp. The shoulder face includes a pair of arches that function as fulcrums to flex the guide rail bracket, which secures the cable retention device to a chassis under compressive force.

  • Patent number: 6556449
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a network chassis having a system backplane board, a subassembly backplane board, and at least one connector disposed on each of the system backplane board and subassembly backplane board for electrically connecting the system backplane board to the subassembly backplane board. The chassis includes a mounting mechanism for rotatably coupling the system backplane board to the chassis and defining a path of rotation therefor, and an ejection mechanism mounted to the system backplane board to unseat the connector of the system backplane board from the connector of the subassembly backplane board. The ejection mechanism selectively exerts a force against the chassis that is directed linearly outwardly from and perpendicularly to the system backplane board. The ejection mechanism further comprises a fastener for releasably engaging the system backplane board to the chassis.

  • Publication number: 20030026074
Abstract: A cooling fan apparatus includes a plastic housing and an electric fan. The housing containing the fan is mounted directly on the external surface of equipment being cooled. No separate mounting frame is utilized. The modular fan apparatus is on-line replaceable and is useful with other units to provide cooling fan redundancy. Preferably, a filtered electrical connector and a light emitting diode are integrated with the housing.

  • Publication number: 20030022532
Abstract: An electrical contact is designed with a plurality of spiraling legs such that when compressed, the spiral legs create a rotation of the top of the contact resulting in a wiping action to the contacting device or pad. The resulting micro-spider contact may be used for a wide variety of non-permanent or permanent electrical connection purposes including use in construction of an interposer.

  • Patent number: 6122176
Abstract: A mounting system for facilitating removal and replacement of circuit cards in a card cage includes a carrier having a generally planar shape and having a plurality of location holes therethrough. A first circuit card edge support is disposed at the bottom edge of the carrier. A first anchor assembly includes a first circuit card locator and a fastener system. The first circuit card locator is removably mounted to the carrier by the fastener system, a portion of which passes through one of the location holes in the carrier. The first circuit card locator is equipped with a support ledge and a hold-down tab for engaging opposite sides of a circuit card while the first circuit card edge support engages an edge of the circuit card. A second anchor assembly includes a post oriented generally perpendicular to the plane of the carrier and passes at least partially through a tooling hole in the circuit card. A second circuit card edge support may also be disposed at the bottom edge of the carrier.
