    Abstract: A pile repair apparatus includes a metal clamp having left and right brackets connected by a hinge member. A friction surface is positioned along an inner surface of the metal clamp to improve the connection of the apparatus to a pile to be repaired. A platform is connected to a top surface of the metal clamp, and a means for providing buoyancy to the pile repair apparatus can be secured to the platform. The buoyancy of the apparatus allows a diver to move and to submerse the apparatus easily and to position the apparatus around a pile to be repaired by opening and closing the apparatus about the hinge member. The apparatus is secured to the pile by inserting a bolt through corresponding apertures in the left and right brackets of the apparatus.

The urging of the at least one brake shoe provides a frictional force to mitigate the recoil of the projectile-firing device. In a preferred embodiment, at least one pair of brake shoes are provided. In a further preferred embodiment, the each of the at least one pair of brake shoes are positioned in a facing, spaced apart relationship and the at least one pair of brake shoe combination is positioned in a coaxial relationship to the projectile-firing device.

The braking system includes at least one brake shoe positioned within an annular free space defined by the outer surface of the object and the inner surface of the tube. The at least one break shoe may be urged against the outer surface of the object or the inner surface of the tube to effect the mitigation.

    Abstract: A housing for the containment of instrumentation in a high pressure fluid environment that consists of a metallic endcap and ceramic cylinder bonded together. The improvement comprises a structure which results in the improved sealing of said housing as the fluid pressure increases. The cylindrical ceramic tube and endcap are dimensioned such that mechanical failure does not occur when exposed to the desired external operating pressures which includes up to 36,000 feet of water. The housing is designed to withstand the external operating pressures without being subject to mechanical failure or excessive deformation which results in the loss of pressure housing integrity via cracking or deformation of the ceramic tube, deformation of the endcap, or from failure of the bonding agent.

    Abstract: An expendable oceanographic sensor apparatus is deployed from an airplane or a ship to make oceanographic observations in a profile of the surface-to-ocean floor, while deployed on the floor, and then a second profile when returning to the ocean surface. The device then records surface conditions until on-board batteries fail. All data collected is stored and then transmitted from the surface to either a satellite or other receiving station. The apparatus is provided with an anchor that causes descent to the ocean floor and then permits ascent when the anchor is released. Anchor release is predetermined by the occurrence of a pre-programmed event.
