  • Patent number: 6076360
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for improving efficiency of a temperature conditioning system which employs a cryogenic liquid. A vapor powered ventilation motor is normally powered by vapor from the low pressure end of the evaporation coils. However, supplemental vapor is provided at start-up to provide immediate ventilation. In addition, vapor which bleeds off valves is cycled through the vapor powered motor or used to maintain a slight positive pressure when the system is shut down.

  • Patent number: 5730216
Abstract: Air conditioning and refrigeration apparatus for controlling the temperature of a conditioned space to a predetermined temperature band adjacent to a predetermined set point temperature via cooling and heating cycles utilizing a supply of pressurized cryogen. A cryogen driven motor drives a fan and an alternator. The alternator provides control voltage for operating electrical control devices which select a heating cycle, or a cooling cycle, as required, and which control the flow of cryogen during the selected cycle. Electrical load on the alternator, and thus a load on the vapor driven motor, is minimized to maintain air delivered by the fan to the conditioned space at a level which provides a substantially uniform air flow and temperature throughout the conditioned space. A cryogen flow control valve is motor controlled and only requires electrical energy when a change in the cryogen flow rate is desired.

  • Patent number: 5598709
Abstract: Both an apparatus and method are provided for vaporizing a liquid cryogen and super heating the resulting vapor into a heated gas. The apparatus includes a combustion-type heat source which may burn a fuel such as propane that generates water-containing combustion gases, and a vaporizer coil having an inlet conduit for receiving a flow of a liquid cryogen, such as liquid carbon dioxide, and an outlet conduit for expelling vaporized cryogen. An annular casing surrounds but is spaced apart from the vaporizer coil. The casing isolates the vaporizer coil from contact with water-containing combustion gases generated by the heat source, thereby preventing the formation of unwanted water and ice on the coil, while at the same time transferring heat from these gases to the coil by thermal radiation. A superheating coil is serially connected to the vaporizer coil to further heat the vaporized cryogen.

  • Patent number: 4834572
Abstract: A mounting clamp for mounting a power supply to the corner castings of a thermal freight container, having a locking mechanism which automatically locks the mounting clamp in selectable installation and locking positions. The locking mechanism includes a gravity biased release lever which is actuated when it is desired to change from one position to the other. When the release lever is actuated and a new operating position is reached, the release lever automatically locks the mounting clamp in the new position, without human intervention. The mounting clamp includes a base having first and second selectable positions for mounting the release lever, which positions respectively adapt the mounting clamp for right and left hand use.

  • Patent number: 4834401
Abstract: A fuel tank assembly which includes a fuel tank mounted below spaced I-beams of a refrigerated container chassis during a land transportation mode in which an engine driven generator provides electrical power for driving a refrigeration compressor. The fuel tank is mounted within about 0.5 inch of the lower flanges of the I-beams, to provide maximum road clearance, by a mounting arrangement which projects tank hangers above the level of the lower flanges of the I-beams, and by mounting brackets which extend downwardly from the tank hangers to rest upon the lower inner flange portions of the I-beams.
