  • Patent number: 6567629
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for cooling a sheet of media in an imaging apparatus wherein an image is deposited on, and fused to, the sheet of media. The sheet of media is cooled before the media exits the imaging apparatus. The apparatus includes a cooling surface configured to contact the sheet of media whereupon heat energy is transferred from the relatively hot sheet of media to the cooling surface which can act as a heat sink to dissipate heat energy. Other devices such as fans, cooling fins, coolant circulation systems and the like can be employed by the apparatus to further facilitate dissipation of the heat energy from the cooling surface.

  • Publication number: 20030084162
Abstract: The described arrangements and procedures provide for peer-to-peer communications with a device that is protected by a firewall. To accomplish this, a receiving device receives a communication from the firewall protected device. The communication includes device access information necessary to communicate with the firewall protected device. The receiving device determines whether the device access information identifies a valid communication pathway to the firewall protected device. The receiving device receives a request from a different device for the information needed to communicate with the firewall protected device. Responsive to receiving the request and responsive to determining that the communication pathway to the device is valid, the device access information is communicated to the different device. The different device can use the communicated device access information to initiate a peer-to-peer communication session with the firewall protected device.

  • Publication number: 20030081853
Abstract: Input print media is received at a printing device. In response to a request from a user to stamp routing information on the print media, the print media is stamped with the routing information. This stamping may be stamping of the received print media, or alternatively the received print media may be unaltered and another print media output having printed thereon the content of the received print media and the routing information.

  • Publication number: 20030059238
Abstract: A device and method for retaining media in a predetermined position for imaging. A platen for a flatbed imaging device includes an electrostatic charge that is imparted to the platen either passively or actively. The electrostatic charge is imparted by a movement of a charged object relative to the platen. In one embodiment of the invention, the electrostatic charge is imparted to the platen passively in the sense that the electrostatic charge is imparted by the placement of a platen cover having one triboelectric value in proximity to a platen having another triboelectric value. In an active embodiment of the invention, the electrostatic charge is imparted to the platen actively in the sense that the requisite electrostatic charge is imparted by movement of a charge emitting device, such as a corona wire, in close proximity to the platen.

  • Publication number: 20030038988
Abstract: A system and method for scanning a medium and reproducing an image of the medium includes a first scanner adapted to scan a first side of the medium and a second scanner adapted to scan a second side of the medium. As such, the first scanner detects one of a presence and an absence of a first image on the first side of the medium and the second scanner detects one of a presence and an absence of a second image on the second side of the medium.

  • Publication number: 20030021619
Abstract: The two paper picking rollers of a dual paper picking device independently pull sheets of paper or other print medium from a supply and feed the same to an image printing device. With the two rollers pulling sheets of paper independently, the total amount of paper moved can be doubled without the need to increase the speed of either roller. Increasing the speed of a roller or other paper picking device increases the possibility that the paper will be mishandled and jam the image-printing device.

  • Publication number: 20030021606
Abstract: An image-printing device includes a dual paper-picking device that has two independent means of pulling sheets of paper or other print medium from a supply and feeding the same to the image-printing device. With two paper-picking means operating independently, two different paper transport paths can be operated. One path includes a laser print engine and prints monochromatic pages. The other path includes an inkjet print engine and prints color pages. The image-printing device firmware determines whether each page is a color or monochromatic page and formats the page accordingly for the appropriate print path.

  • Publication number: 20020171858
Abstract: A printing device can include a capacitive monitoring system to monitor the amount of print medium (e.g., paper) available in the printing device. The capacitive monitor includes conductive plates above and below the supply of print medium. With the print medium acting as a dielectric element, the capacitance of the system will change as print medium is removed from the supply. This change in capacitance can be used to monitor the supply of print medium in the printing device.

  • Patent number: 6030283
Abstract: A hand held ice skate blade sharpening tool has a holder having a rotatably mounted cylindrical sharpening stone material. The holder and stone are retained with a two-piece body. A releasable connector holds the body together. The body has a longitudinal access slot extending radially from the outer surface of the stone. Elongated guides projecting upwardly adjacent the slot are transversely spaced at a distance substantially the same as the width of an ice skate blade to guide and limit lateral movement of the blade within the slot during the sharpening procedure. Shims are positioned in grooves in the guides to adjust the width of the slot to accommodate ice skate blades having different thicknesses. A transverse groove intersects the slot and guides. The bottom of the transverse groove is open to the channel exposing the outer surface of the stone.

  • Patent number: 5879229
Abstract: A hand held sharpener has two slots to selectively accommodate the blades of ice hockey skates. A two-piece body having stepped inside housing walls accommodate different diameter and length abrading stones. Fasteners releasably holding the members of the body together can be loosened to allow the different stones to be interchanged.

  • Patent number: 5431597
Abstract: A hand held skate blade sharpening tool has a rotatable sharpening stone retained within a channel-shaped body member. Removable pins mounted on the body are located adjacent the outer ends of the stone to limit longitudinal movement of the stone within a channel of the body member. The body member has an access slot extending radially from the stone. Elongated guides projecting upwardly adjacent the slot are transversely spaced at a distance substantially the same as the width of the skate blade to guide and limit lateral movement of the blade within the slot. A transverse groove interrupting the slot and guides is open to the channel exposing the stone. This enables the stone to be manually rotated within the channel to rotate an unused sharpening surface into alignment with the slot.

  • Patent number: 5383307
Abstract: A hand held skate blade sharpening tool has a rotatable cylindrical member having an outer sleeve made of a sharpening stone material retained within a channel-shaped body member. Removable screws threaded through the body engage bearings rotatably mounted on the outer ends of the cylindrical member to limit longitudinal movement of the stone within a channel of the body member. The body member has an access slot extending radially from the stone. Elongated guides projecting upwardly adjacent the slot are transversely spaced at a distance substantially the same as the width of the skate blade to guide and limit lateral movement of the blade within the slot. Grooves in the bearings are aligned with the slot whereby the bearings do not interfere with movement of the tool along the skate blade. A transverse groove interrupting the slot and guides is open to the channel exposing the stone sleeve.
