    Abstract: A cutter head includes a first member, a cutting bit, and a second member. The first member includes a first end and a second end and includes a first mass. The cutting bit is coupled to the first member proximate the second end. The cutting bit includes a cutting edge rotatable about the axis. The second member is rotatable about the axis and includes a second mass eccentrically positioned with respect to the axis. Rotation of the second mass causes the first member and the cutting bit to oscillate.

The surfaces of the slabs, including slots, are metallized. The broad sides of the slabs are juxtaposed, with the slots registered with the planar surfaces of another slab, to form one or more closed waveguides. The waveguides may feed microchips, or act as antennas. The slabs may include electrical conductors andor heat pipes. Heat pipes are made by defining apertures with the dielectric slabs, and introducing wick material into the apertures.

    Abstract: An encapsulated heat pipe is made by placing a removable elongated solid partially within a mold, filling the mold with a solid dielectric material, and removing the elongated solid from the dielectric material defining an elongated cavity that extends within the solid dielectric material. Next, a wick material is inserted into the periphery of the elongated cavity, then a coolant liquid is inserted into the elongated cavity and the open end of the elongated cavity is sealed.

    Abstract: A flexible connection extending between two objects which have relative motion is subject to deleterious electrical performance or damage due to fatigue or resonance. The connection is structurally augmented and therefore stiffened without affecting the range of motion by use of one of a pantograph or a bell-crank-and-carriage stiffener arrangement. The structural augmentation connects to the ends of the connection and also to locations along the length, to force portions of the connection to accept motion proportional to their distance between the moving ends.

    Abstract: A method and cleaning system is disclosed for cleaning the outer surface of a fouled microfiltration (MF) or ultrafiltration (UF) semipermeable hollow fiber membrane after its initial stable transmembrane flux has been decreased to an unacceptably low level. The method is specifically applicable to any fiber used to withdraw purified water from dirty water, particularly water containing organic matter including beneficial bacteria and/or undesirable inorganic salts, where the viability of the bacteria population is to be maintained. The membrane is cleaned by flowing a cleaning fluid, preferably a biocidal oxidative electrolyte having an oxidizing anion and an associated cation through the clean, permeate-side of the membrane, at low pressure no more than the bubble pressure breakthrough, usually <300 kPa (30 psig) for a MF or UF fiber.

    Abstract: A frameless array unconfined in a modular shell, proves to be a surprisingly effective membrane device for withdrawing permeate from a substrate, the flux through the membranes reaching an essentially constant relatively high value because of the critical deployment of fibers of the array as a skein, arching in a buoyantly swayable generally parabolic configuration within the substrate, above at least one of the array's headers in which the terminal end portions of the fibers are potted. The length of each fiber must be greater than the direct center-to-center distance between the array's pair of headers. For use in a large reservoir, an assembly of the array and a gas distributor means has fibers preferably >0.5 meter long, which together provide a surface area >10 m.sup.2. The terminal end portions of fibers in each header are substantially free from fiber-to-fiber contact.
