  • Publication number: 20070005007
Abstract: An apparatus for mixing and applying a fibrin tissue adhesive and a thrombin activator to target tissue in a laparoscopic procedure as a spray includes a spray set and a regulator module. The spray set includes a pair of elongated tubes of hypodermic stock having a Luer fitting at the proximal ends thereof for attachment to a pair of syringes containing the fibrin solution and the thrombin solution, respectively. The pair of tubes is contained within the lumen of an elongated sheath. A hub at the proximal end of the sheath has a gas inlet port. A gas is delivered to this inlet port by means of a regulator module upon actuation of a footswitch. Upon actuation of the footswitch and simultaneous actuation of the syringe plungers, the two reactive solutions mix only at the distal spray tip and are propelled by the applied gas onto the target tissue. The regulator module also controls venting of insufflation gas from the abdominal cavity to avoid unwanted buildup of pressure as the spray applicator is used.
