  • Publication number: 20180082350
Abstract: Techniques are described for dynamically generating recommendations for users, such as for products and other items. In at least some situations, the techniques include using multiple recommendation strategies, such as by aggregating recommendation results from multiple different recommendation strategies. Such recommendation strategies may have various forms, and may be based at least in part on data regarding prior interactions of numerous users with numerous items. In addition, information about current selections of a particular user may be gathered based at least in part on providing a GUI (“graphical user interface”) for display to the user that includes selectable information about numerous recommended items, and dynamically updating the displayed GUI with newly generated recommendations of items as the user makes selections of particular displayed recommended items (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20100132381
Abstract: Provided is a low friction, self-lubricating sleeve for use with a reciprocating piston in the compressor and/or the expander subsystem of a cryogenic cooler or other compressor type system. The sleeve is bonded to an outer surface of the piston, thereby positioning the sleeve between the piston and an inner wall of a piston cylinder. The sleeve is manufactured using a polyetheretherketone base material, as well as varying percentages of carbon and/or polytetrafluoroethylene fillers. The sleeve may include a dry lubricant such as graphite or molybdenum disulfide, and may extend for all or part of the length of the piston. The sleeve demonstrates negligible wear over thousands of hours of use in the cryogenic cooler, thereby minimizing system gas blow-back and maximizing system efficiency/performance.

  • Publication number: 20080089347
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for maximizing transmission throughput or capacity in a heterogeneous communications network. The systems and methods may include any one, or combinations, of: a route tracing module for identifying an optimization endpoint or destination; a testing module for sending representative test data to the endpoint/destination and measuring the data throughput/capacity for a given set of transmission variable values; and an optimization module for analyzing the set of transmission variable values and the associated data throughput/capacity, and determining an optimized set of transmission variables/values. Thus, the optimization module changes the transmission variable values of an associated network device operating within the heterogeneous communications network to achieve maximum data throughput/capacity.

  • Publication number: 20050267928
Abstract: Provided are systems, apparatus and methods for the management and control of a plurality of networking devices. Embodiments include a database at each node of a communications network, where the database stores all networking and/or security data associated with each networking device at all nodes. Further, a replication module communicates any networking and/or security data changes to the databases, and insures that each database has the same information. Other embodiments may include an adaptive networking module operable to analyze and optimize the behavior, performance and/or security of the networking devices, and a simulation module to insure that any optimization-related changes do not adversely affect any of the networking devices. Therefore, the network management systems, apparatus and methods advantageously provide a decentralized system of all networking and/or security data that allows each network node to individually optimize its, and the entire network's, networking performance and security.

  • Publication number: 20050037513
Abstract: The apparatus includes a laser to vaporize or break down an analyte desired to be measured (e.g. PCB or PCB like compounds) in a surface area. The analyte is vaporized and transported to an absorption trap for analysis. Typically the system is sufficiently portable to take to a site and acquire samples for analysis on site. The analytes can be analyzed directly from the absorption trap without solvent extraction processes. Typically the system is portable allowing acquisition and analysis on site.

  • Patent number: 6070414
Abstract: A cryogenic cooler and a dewar assembly including a cooled surface; a cooling surface for removing thermal energy from said cooled surface; and an adapter disposed between said cooling surface and the cooled surface for conducting thermal energy therebetween. A first fluid is disposed between the cooled surface and the adapter for conducting thermal energy from the cooled surface to the adapter. A second fluid is disposed between the cooling surface and the adapter for conducting thermal energy from the adapter to the cooling surface whereby the cooling surface remains free to move axially relative to the adapter at a temperature of the cooling surface at which the first fluid is susceptible to freezing. This allows for movement of the cold finger relative to the dewar and adapter, due to differential thermal coefficients of expansion or support structure motion, without adversely affecting the communication of thermal energy from the load.

  • Patent number: 5735640
Abstract: Geosynthetics and structures for earth reinforcement, stabilization and retention. Membranes used in such structures are formed by weaving a number of fill members, which are preferably fibrillated polypropylene members or strips, with a plurality of warp member sets, which are preferably formed of extruded polypropylene yarns. The woven membrane so formed sustains the moderate tensile loads imposed by earth reinforcement requirements in roadways, runways, and other ways. It is inexpensive because the materials are inexpensive and may be woven in a cost efficient way, and, if desired, in a way which allows the strength and tensile properties of the membrane to be varied for a custom application by varying the composition, number and disposition of the fill members and warp members.
