  • Patent number: 7752849
Abstract: An arrangement for controlling flow of fluid to a component of a gas turbine engine, the arrangement comprising: a conduit, coupled to a supply of fluid, for providing fluid to the component of the gas turbine engine; a magnetic valve for at least partially restricting the conduit and having a valve member with at least a first configuration in which the conduit is at least partially restricted and a second configuration in which the conduit is relatively open, wherein the configuration of the valve member is controlled by magnetic flux in a magnetic circuit which includes at least one member comprising ferromagnetic material, whereby the configuration is responsive to the temperature of the ferromagnetic material.

  • Patent number: 7557481
Abstract: A rotor 10 for an electrical machine comprising a rotor body 12, at least one magnet 18 coupled to the rotor body 12 and a retainer 22 for retaining the at least one magnet 18 to the rotor body 12, the retainer 22 comprising at least one elongate fibre in a metal matrix.

  • Patent number: 7324008
Abstract: Condition monitoring of an electrical machine is achieved by using electro-magnetic finite element analysis to analyse the machine based on model parameters corresponding with at least one fault condition. This allows the effect of the fault condition to be predicted. Metrology is used to recover live measurements for comparison with the predictions from the electro-magnetic finite element analysis to identify any fault signatures within the live measurements, in principle allowing those faults to be detected or diagnosed before they become catastrophic.
