  • Patent number: 9213410
Abstract: A method for accessing a file on a computing machine including configuring a sensor to detect an object and a user interacting with the object, associating the object with at least one file on the computing machine, and configuring a display device to render an associated file being accessed in response to the user interacting with the object.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 26, 2010
Date of Patent: December 15, 2015
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company L.P.
Inventors: Robert Campbell, Bradley Suggs, John P. McCarthy
  • Publication number: 20120274550
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a gesture mapping method for a computer system including a display and a database coupled to a processor. According to one embodiment, the method includes storing a plurality of two-dimensional gestures for operating the computer system, and detecting the presence of an object within a field of view of at least two three-dimensional optical sensors. Positional information is associated with movement of the object, and this information is mapped to one of the plurality of gestures stored in the database. Furthermore, the processor is configured to determine a control operation for the mapped gesture based on the positional information and a location of the object with respect to the display.

  • Publication number: 20100085328
Abstract: Apparatus for providing a touch-sensitive display are provided. A touch-sensitive display apparatus can include a first layer comprising a plurality of emitters disposed thereupon and a second layer comprising a screen for the display of images visible to the human eye. A first portion of the emitters can emit electromagnetic radiation at one or more first wavelengths invisible to the human eye. The electromagnetic radiation at the first wavelength can be partially or completely transmissible through the second layer. A user can dispose an object proximate to the second layer, causing the reflection of all or a portion of the electromagnetic radiation therefrom. The remaining portion of the emitters can absorb all or a portion of the reflected electromagnetic radiation at the first frequency.

  • Patent number: 6009214
Abstract: A multi-resolution color contact-type image sensing apparatus whereby a color image of an original can be obtained with a particular resolution, depending upon the size of the original image. A first array of photosensor segments with a base resolution is arranged with at least one other array of photosensor segments having a greater-than-base resolution. All such photosensor segments might aligned in a single linear array, with at least one portion of segments having a greater-than-base resolution. A resulting image with at least the base resolution could be created depending upon the size of the original in relation to the placement and width of the greater-than-base resolution segments. A plurality of linear arrays might also be used, with each successive array having a greater resolution than the previous array. Moreover, the arrays might be arranged in parallel with each successive array being narrower in width than the previous.
