    Abstract: A manually-operated sewing machine is provided. The sewing machine includes a manually-operated handle, a needle bar to hold a needle, and a direction control device. The needle bar reciprocates responsive to a reciprocating motion of the manually-operated handle. The direction control device controls lateral movement of the needle bar between forward and reverse directions. The direction control device is movable between a first position that corresponds to the forward direction and a second position that corresponds to the reverse direction.
