  • Patent number: 6302207
Abstract: Improved methods of completing subterranean producing zones containing unconsolidated sands penetrated by well bores are provided. The methods are basically comprised of placing a sand screen in the zone, isolating the annulus between the sand screen and the well bore in the zone, introducing particulate solids and foam forming pellets or open cell foam pieces with or without particulate solids and foam forming pellets into the annulus between the sand screen and the well bore to thereby form a formation sand screening permeable pack in the annulus. When utilized, the foam forming pellets are activated by heat or other means to form a foam which expands and solidifies in the pack thereby eliminating voids and strengthening the pack.

  • Patent number: 6213209
Abstract: Methods of preventing the production of sand with fluids produced from a subterranean formation penetrated by a well bore are provided. The methods basically comprise the steps of preparing a resin composition which delayedly forms a hardened open cell foam capable of allowing the passage of well fluids therethrough while screening and preventing the passage of formation sand and then placing the resin composition adjacent to the formation by way of the well bore.

  • Patent number: 6109350
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of reducing water produced with hydrocarbons from subterranean formations penetrated by well bores. The methods basically comprise the steps of coating a particulate solid material with an organic polymer which reacts with water and swells when contacted therewith whereby the flow of water through a pack of the resulting polymer coated particulate solid material is reduced or prevented, and thereafter, placing a pack of the polymer coated particulate solid material in or adjacent to the formation whereby water and hydrocarbons produced from the formation are caused to flow through the pack.

  • Patent number: 6047772
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of treating a subterranean formation with a particulate laden fluid whereby particulate flowback is reduced or prevented. The method includes the steps of providing a fluid suspension including a mixture of a particulate, a tackifying compound and a multifunctional material, pumping the suspension into a subterranean formation and depositing the mixture within the formation whereby the tackifying compound retards movement of at least a portion of the particulate within the formation upon flow of fluids from the subterranean formation and said multifunctional material subsequently reacts with said tackifying compound to consolidate at least a portion of said particulate within said formation.

  • Patent number: 6016870
Abstract: The present invention relates to improved methods and compositions for consolidating unconsolidated subterranean zones. The compositions of the invention are low viscosity hardenable epoxy resin compositions which are basically comprised of an epoxy resin, a N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone diluent and an effective amount of a hardening agent.

  • Patent number: 5996694
Abstract: Methods and compositions for preventing high density well completion fluid loss are provided. The methods basically comprise the steps of preparing a high density cross-linked aqueous gelled composition having the rigidity required to resist entry into a permeable subterranean formation penetrated by a well bore, placing the high density cross-linked aqueous gelled composition in the portion of the well bore within the permeable subterranean formation and placing a high density completion fluid in the well bore behind the high density cross-linked gelled composition.

  • Patent number: 5921317
Abstract: Methods of continuously forming and suspending hardenable resin-fibrous material composite coated proppant in a carrier liquid are provided. The methods basically comprise dissolving a hardenable resin composition and a fibrous material in a solvent which is insoluble in the carrier liquid, pumping the carrier liquid, combining uncoated proppant with the carrier liquid as the carrier liquid is pumped and combining the hardenable resin composition-fibrous material solution with the carrier liquid as the carrier liquid is pumped whereby the proppant is coated with a hardenable resin composition-fibrous material composite.
