    Abstract: A spur gear differential (10) is used in a vehicle. The spur gear differential (10) includes a plurality of sets of planet gears (24a, 24b). The first planet gear (124a) is positioned to engage a first side gear (26) and a second planet gear (25) is positioned to engage a second side gear (25). A locking mechanism is also provided for locking the first side gear to the second side gear.
