    Abstract: A drill bit includes a cutter element having a tapered and faceted side surface extending to a peak, and a polygonal wear face that slopes from the peak toward the cutter element base. The cutter element is mounted in a cone cutter of a rolling cone drill bit and, in certain embodiments, is positioned such that, when the cutter element is in a position farthest from the bit axis, the wear face generally faces and is parallel to the borehole sidewall and the peak engages the borehole bottom.
