  • Patent number: 7499548
Abstract: A user terminal can be authenticated by an access point based on one message. In one embodiment, the present invention includes the access point receiving a message containing a shared secret encrypted with an access point public key, a user terminal certificate, and an authenticator string demonstrating possession by the user terminal of a user terminal private key. The access point can decrypt the shared secret using the private key of the access point paired with its private key. The access point can then authenticate the user terminal by checking the authenticator string using a user terminal public key included in the user terminal certificate to verify possession of the user terminal private key by the user terminal.

  • Patent number: 7487534
Abstract: An application programming interface (API) for managing resources in a Digital Television (DTV) Receiver/Terminal. The API provides a uniform mechanism for gaining/controlling access to resources, managing multiple resources of the same type, and accessing the individual resource's management state and status. The resources may include, for example, a tuner, a modem, a database, a plug-in module, a cable, a software module, a network interface card, or a conditional access module. The resources are monitored and controlled either locally at the terminal, or remotely, e.g., from a head-end or an uplink. The API provides a resource package (40) for registering the available resources at the terminal, a resource state management package (30) for managing states of the resources, and a registry package (20) for storing objects that represent the resources. Resources of the same type are managed as a group.

  • Patent number: 7356029
Abstract: A system and method of multiplexing data into an MPEG transport stream are described. In particular, an IP packet is examined to determine if it is a multicast IP packet. If so, the IP packet is repackaged into one or more MPEG packets for transmission in the MPEG transport stream.

  • Patent number: 7302565
Abstract: The certificate issued by a certificate authority used in authenticating a user terminal can be scrambled prior to being set to an access point. In one embodiment, the present invention includes a user terminal having a memory in which a user terminal certificate is stored. The user terminal also has a processor coupled to the memory to scramble the user terminal certificate using a shared secret to be known only by the user terminal and an access point of the wireless access network, and a transmitter coupled to the processor to send a message to the access point, the message including the scrambled user terminal certificate.

  • Patent number: 7266685
Abstract: The time reference of a user terminal that is derived from an unauthenticated access point can be certified by a trusted entity according to the present invention. In one embodiment, the present invention includes a user terminal obtaining a time reference from an access point of a wireless access network. The user terminal then receives a digital certificate having a validity period from the access point, the certificate being issued by a certificate authority. In one embodiment, the user terminal requests certification of the time reference by a trusted entity, and receives the certification. Then the user terminal can validate the digital certificate.

  • Patent number: 6996779
Abstract: A feature-rich transport multiplexer and a number of associated methods, systems, subsystems, software features, graphical user interfaces and control systems are disclosed. The disclosure includes GUI's that enable operators to easily monitor and manipulate content streams flowing through a transport multiplexer in real-time. The disclosed interfaces include screens that supply operators with identity, structure, configuration, bandwidth utilization and/or status information for system hardware and software. The disclosed features also provide computer assisted routing configuration for present and future routing events through simple manipulation, such as drag and drop operations, of graphical objects. Routing control is further simplified by permitting operators to configure routing control of individual content stream components as well as groups of such components simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20020085571
Abstract: An enhanced Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) management system for telecommunications networks which efficiently provides many of the sophisticated management techniques enabled by Open Systems Interconnection (OSI), Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP) and Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) protocols, while maintaining the simplicity of SNMP. The enhanced SNMP defines a management state of each SNMP agent, define events which are to be reported from the agent to the management station, and provides a log for recording particular events and associated agent data vales when the events occur. The enhanced SNMP also provides the capability for an alarm, state change, and value change notification to be communicated from the SNMP agents to an SNMP management station when specific events occur at the agent.

  • Patent number: 6170005
Abstract: A system for providing synchronization and information exchange in a network such as a digital television broadcast network using a network management operations and control paradigm. A management entity component, such as a computer workstation operated at a control center, coordinates the actions of different agent components, such as hardware used at the headend or uplink site of a television network. The agent components are used to provide conditional access to a television signal by inserting conditional access data into the transmitted programming. Management information bases (MIBs) are provided for the agent components and the management component. The agent components update their MIBs with information of the communication network, such as changes in a television event schedule. The management component periodically reads the agents' MIBs to obtain the updated information and store it in its own MIB.
