Abstract: An earth station transmitter device is arranged for generating a signal to be transmitted to a plurality of earth station receiver devices of a satellite communication system. The device includes a plurality of shapers, such that each shaper is arranged for shaping for data traffic to a different subset of earth station receiver devices a symbol rate; a modulator includes a time slice selector arranged for receiving and storing the groups of time slices outputted by the plurality of shaping means; and a controller is adapted to monitor the modulator and to convey to at least one of the shaping means based on the monitoring an update of the symbol rate shaped by the at least one shaping means.

Abstract: A method for adjusting transmit power of a terminal transmitter on a return link between the terminal transmitter and a receiver. The method includes: a) determining on a version of at least one data burst signal comprised in the receive signal, and a first metric is indicative of the amount of non-linear distortion with which the version of the at least one data burst signal is impaired; b) determining on at least a part of the receive signal a second metric indicative of at least one impairment other than the amount of non-linear distortion; c) determining an updated transmit power value for a next data burst signal to be sent from the first terminal transmitter, thereby taking into account the first and second metric.

Abstract: A communication system includes a transmitter and one or more receivers. The transmitter is arranged to transmit a sequence of physical layer frames at a physical layer symbol rate. An adaptive coding and modulation optimization means are arranged to determine a first modulation and coding for transmitting per receiver of one or more receivers. The transmitter further inserts fill frames modulated (with a first fill modulation) prior to filtering with the transmit filter. The first fill modulation is selected from a set of fill modulations with at least one modulation with a modulation order higher than QPSK. The communication system includes link quality detection, which means to determine a metric of the communication link quality from a version of physical layer frames at the receive side. The physical layer frames include the fill frames and convey the link quality metric to the adaptive optimization means.
