  • Patent number: 8982893
Abstract: A system, method, and node providing a predefined Quality of Service (QoS) level to an Over The Top (OTT) service provider in a telecommunications network. A User Equipment (UE) initiates an IP-based application session (e.g., Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) session) with the OTT service provider by sending an application-dependent message toward an OTT application server. The method begins with a proxy node in the telecommunications network intercepting the application-dependent message. The proxy node then modifies the application-dependent message by adding a subscriber identification to the header of the application-dependent message. The proxy node forwards the modified application-dependent message to the OTT application server. The OTT application server then sends a request having the subscriber identification to the telecommunications network with a QoS requirement for the HTTP session. Next, a network policy node determines an appropriate QoS level for the subscriber.

  • Publication number: 20130268676
Abstract: An apparatus operable on a server to enable an application registered with a first service provider to utilize resources of a second service provider and method of operating the same. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes memory including computer program code configured to, with a processor, cause the apparatus to receive a provisioning request from a communication node of the first service provider to register the application with the server, provide another provisioning request to register the application with a communication node of the second service provider, and provide an application request to employ the resources of the communication node of the second service provider to perform the application.

  • Publication number: 20120296784
Abstract: A method is disclosed for controlling Quality of Service (QoS) provided through a network for communications between an Over The Top (OTT) application on an OTT application server and a User Equipment node (UE). The method includes receiving a registration request from the OTT application requesting provisioning of QoS through the network for the OTT application. An Application Programming Interface (API) of a service delivery platform (SDP) is configured to have dependent rules that provision a QoS level for the OTT application responsive to the registration request. QoS for a communication session between the UE and the OTT application through the network is controlled responsive to the QoS level provisioned for the OTT application. Related communication systems, OTT application servers, and SDPs are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20120054068
Abstract: A system, method, and node for providing an end-user device with access to an operator's service capability through a third-party provider. The system increases sales of Video-On-Demand (VOD) content stored in a telecommunication operator network by enabling a third-party supplier to retrieve a catalog of the VOD content stored in the operator network, and to sell videos from the retrieved catalog to end-user devices. When the third-party supplier receives a request from a wireless end-user device to purchase a video from the catalog, the third-party supplier notifies the operator network, which then delivers the video to the wireless end-user device. The third-party supplier may pay a fee to the operator network for each video sold.
