  • Publication number: 20070265128
Abstract: A single mode, compound-split transmission is provided having two mechanical power paths. One mechanical path is primarily active at low speed ratios with the other path being primarily active in high speed ratios. A reduction ratio is available in the path employed for high speed ratios, reducing electrical path power requirements. Additionally, the reduction ratio, allows both of two motor/generators to be of a relatively low torque design.

  • Publication number: 20070256870
Abstract: A hybrid powertrain includes a control unit that regulates electric power interchange an energy storage device and a motor/generator for causing selective torque generation by the motor/generator and for controlling engagement of torque-transmitting mechanisms. The control unit is configured to place the torque-transmitting mechanism in slipping engagement to launch the vehicle and thereby decouple a fixed relationship between engine torque and motor/generator torque or between engine torque and torque at the output member. A method of operating a hybrid vehicle powertrain is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20070021257
Abstract: An electrically variable transmission includes a power source, three differential gear sets, first and second motor/generators each connected to at least one of the gear sets, and torque-transmitting mechanisms. An input member transfers power from the power source through the differential gear sets to an output member. The torque-transmitting mechanisms are selectively engageable to provide an input-split first electrically variable mode having equal forward and reverse speed ratios for given input speeds and to provide substantially equal fixed forward and reverse speed ratios.

  • Publication number: 20070021256
Abstract: An electrically variable transmission includes a power source, three differential gear sets, first and second motor/generators each connected to at least one of the gear sets, and torque-transmitting mechanisms. An input member transfers power from the power source through the differential gear sets to an output member. The torque-transmitting mechanisms are selectively engageable to provide an input-split first electrically variable mode having equal forward and reverse speed ratios for given input speeds and a compound, power-split second electrically variable mode. Torque provided from the power source is added to torque provided from the second motor generator in both forward and reverse electrically variable modes.

  • Publication number: 20060128513
Abstract: A powertrain includes an engine with an engine output member and a transmission with two motor/generators and a transmission input member operatively connected to the engine output member. A control unit is configured to selectively cause a device to resist or prevent rotation of the input member in response to the existence of certain conditions, such as the engine not supplying torque to the transmission and the transmission being in reverse operating mode. Resisting or preventing rotation of the input member improves transmission performance when only the motor/generators are supplying torque to propel the vehicle. A corresponding method is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6125777
Abstract: A sewing machine for attaching tapes to a web includes a web feed station, a sewing station and a transfer mechanism to transfer the web from the sewing station to a collection zone. The sewing station includes a sewing head that moves across the web to sew the tape. The tape has hooks periodically spaced along the tape and movement of the sewing head is initiated by sensing one of the hooks at a predetermined locator. Successive tapes may then be sewn with the hooks aligned.

  • Patent number: 4960126
Abstract: A pulse oximeter and method of determining the oxygen saturation level of a patient's blood wherein a heartbeat related signal is used, as a reference to guide the averaging of optical pulse waveforms. The oximeter and method assign different weighting to different optical pulses based upon the amplitude of new pulse waveforms and the degree of similarity between it and the preceding waveform. A composite, averaged pulse waveform is then used in computing oxygen saturation level.

  • Patent number: 4914719
Abstract: A gas multiple component analyzer includes an infrared source that passes at least one measuring beam through a sample cell that contains the gas to be analyzed. Three measuring signals are generated in response to the measuring beam, and each is indicative of optical energy from the source transmitted through the sample cell in a respective optical region characterized by a respective optical center wave-length and a respective band pass. The three measuring signals are algebraically combined to automatically determine which of the three end gases is present in the sample cell in the greatest concentration, and the concentration thereof. The disclosed system measures concentration of three separate gases having overlapping absorption spectra.
