The method includes configuring a vehicle for tamper and jamming detection, installing a communication device and an engine immobilizer in the vehicle, and providing a user interface for configuring the communication device to activate the engine immobilizer. The method further includes parallel paths for tampering detection, which immobilizes the vehicle and notifies the server upon detection, and for jamming detection, which similarly immobilizes the vehicle and notifies the server, including the vehicle's GPS position. Optionally, image information from the vehicle may be included in the notification or to trigger immobilization upon detecting multiple occupants, indicating a potential carjacking.
