    Abstract: A medical electrical lead comprises a flexible, elongate lead body extending along a longitudinal axis and having a proximal end and a distal end. A protective distal tip structure is disposed on the distal end of the lead body. The tip structure includes a plurality of compliant projections each extending distally from the distal end of the body in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The projections are configured to contact and bear against cardiac tissue when the lead is implanted, and are deformable under the action of an axially or radially directed force. The projections optionally include a coating over a substrate. The coating can include a hydrogel material and/or a pharmaceutical agent such as a steroid for reducing inflammation at the implantation site.

    Abstract: An implantable medical device lead includes an insulative lead body, an outer conductive coil extending through the lead body, and an inner conductive coil extending coaxially with the outer conductive coil. The outer conductive coil is coupled to a proximal electrode at a distal end of the outer conductive coil, and the inner conductive coil is coupled to a distal electrode at a distal end of the inner conductive coil. A cooling assembly is thermally coupled to the distal electrode to dissipate heat generated at the distal electrode during exposure to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) fields.

    Abstract: A method for making an implantable electrode for a cardiac lead includes forming a template including a plurality of features having substantially similar feature dimensions is formed. The template defines a shape corresponding to a shape of the implantable electrode. A layer of conductive material is then deposited on the template such that the conductive material shapes to the plurality of features to define an array of electrode pores having substantially similar pore dimensions in the layer of conductive material. The template is then removed from the layer of conductive material.

The proximal end is adapted to be connected to a pulse generator, and the distal end includes a curved portion. At least a portion of each of the one or more electrodes includes an arrangement of interconnected, spaced-apart elements that are selectively configured to allow the one or more electrodes to conform to contours of the curved portion during and after implantation of the medical lead.

The body has a longitudinal axis, a groove formed circumferentially about the body for receiving a suture and an inner bore forming a recessed portion. The anchoring device also has a surrounding portion adjacent the recessed portion, where the recessed portion has increased retention characteristics on a medical lead relative to the surrounding portion of the inner bore.

    Abstract: A two-part implantable cardiac pacing lead is usable with a cardiac function management device. The lead includes an outer lead portion having a lead body and a conductive coil extending substantially from the proximal end to the distal end. The lead body defines an internal longitudinal lumen. The lead further includes a surface electrode coupled to the lead body near the distal end and a sleeve defining an internal bore. The sleeve mechanically couples to the proximal end of the lead body and is electrically insulated from the conductive coil. The lead further includes an inner lead portion having a pin adapted to mechanically engage the internal bore. The pin is adapted for electrically coupling with a longitudinally-extending conductive member sized to fit within the internal longitudinal lumen.
