    Abstract: Systems, methods and devices for initiating pairing of wireless surgical instruments to a modular energy system are disclosed herein. In various aspects, a modular energy system includes an a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader that is configured to read an RFID card that is uniquely associated with a surgical instrument. When the RFID reader reads the RFID card, the RFID reader initiates a wireless pairing process with the surgical instrument. Initiating the wireless pairing process may include causing the module energy system to wirelessly search for the surgical instrument and causing a display screen to display instructions for wirelessly pairing the surgical instrument.

The backplane connector subassembly physically and electrically connects at least two modules stacked on top of one another. The method includes providing a back panel defining an inner surface, attaching a first support member to the inner surface of the back panel, attaching a second support member to the inner surface of the back panel, attaching the upstream connector to the back panel by sliding a first mating hole defined in the upstream connector onto the first support member, and attaching the downstream connector to the back panel by a sliding a second mating hole defined in the downstream connector onto the second support member. The first support member is configured to support an upstream connector. The second support member is configured to support a downstream connector.

In some aspects, a modular energy system can include an energy module and a display screen. The energy module can include a plurality of ports. The display screen can be configured to render a graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI can be configured to display a plurality of widgets corresponding to the ports and display an object indicating that a footswitch is available to be assigned to one of the ports. The GUI can be further configured to allow a user to drag and drop the object into one of the widgets. Dragging and dropping the object into one of the widgets can cause the modular energy system to assign the footswitch to the port corresponding to the widget.

    Abstract: An apparatus for delivering therapeutic agent to an eye comprises a body, a cannula, a hollow needle, and an actuation assembly. The cannula extends distally from the body and is sized and configured to be insertable between a choroid and a sclera of a patient's eye. The actuation assembly is operable to actuate the needle relative to the cannula to thereby drive a distal portion of the needle along an exit axis that is obliquely oriented relative to the longitudinal axis of the cannula. The cannula may be inserted through a sclerotomy incision to position a distal end of the cannula at a posterior region of the eye, between the choroid and sclera. The needle may be advanced through the choroid to deliver the therapeutic agent adjacent to the potential space between the neurosensory retina and the retinal pigment epithelium layer, adjacent to the area of geographic atrophy.

An augmented reality display presents functional overlay data associated with critical operations of a surgical instrument being actively visualized and interactions of the surgical instrument with tissue in the surgical area. The functional data is overlaid onto the real image of the surgical area. The functional data overlay is a combination of aspects of the critical operations of the surgical instrument and the interaction of the surgical instrument with the tissue in the surgical area. A processor receives functional data from the surgical instrument, determines the overlaid data related to the functional aspect of the surgical instrument, and combines the aspect of the tissue in the surgical area with the functional data received from the surgical instrument.

The control system is configured to overlay, on the livestream, a first amount of information associated with the surgical procedure, detect an event configured to cause the first amount of information being overlaid to increase to a second amount of information being overlaid, compare the second amount of information to a distraction threshold, adjust the second amount of information to a third amount of information based on the comparison, and overlay, on the livestream, the third amount of information based on the second amount of information being adjusted. The third amount of information is less than the distraction threshold.

The stop thus ensures that a predetermined amount of fluid remains in the barrel.
