Patent number: 10068203Abstract: Methods and systems for managing To do items and/or notes and/or emails (or other electronic messages) are described. A record, such as a To do item, in a database maintained locally by the data processing system is encoded into metadata. The metadata is sent as a false email message by an email client application executing on the data processing system to a remote email message server. An email client application executing on a remote processing system accesses the email message server and receives the false email message containing the metadata. The remote client application then either converts the metadata back into a database record editable at the remote processing system or presents a non-editable view of the database record, for example as an incoming email message.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2011Date of Patent: September 4, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Brendan Langoulant, Stephen Lemay, Scott Forstall, David Paul Hearst, Hernan Rodrigo Eguiluz, Gregory Christie

Patent number: 9880704Abstract: Exemplary methods, apparatuses, and systems receive a reply or forward command for a selected email message in an email user interface, determine that the email user interface is in full screen mode and that the selected email message is at least partially outside of a visible area of the email user interface, and display a composition window in response to the command, wherein the displaying includes a sequence of images to create the illusion of the composition window sliding up from the bottom of the screen. In an example, a user interface includes a collapsible panel of mailboxes and folders, and a separate and independent favorites bar including a plurality of the mailboxes and folders. One of the mailboxes and folders in the favorites bar may be a hierarchical folder that includes a subfolder that is accessible via a drop down menu from the hierarchical folder in the favorites bar.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2014Date of Patent: January 30, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Angela Guzman, Bas Ording, Brendan Langoulant, Daniel Shteremberg, Patrick Lee Coffman, Stephen Decker, Stephen O. Patent number: 9824314Abstract: Exemplary methods, apparatuses, and systems determine that an indication that a received message was sent in response to another message is present in the received message, parse a stored message, in response to the indication being present, for at least a partial match between a subject of the received message and contents of a subject of the stored message, and for at least a partial match between sender and recipient participants of the received message and sender and recipient participants of the stored message, and display the received message as grouped with the stored message. A further exemplary feature includes parsing text of the received message for text that is redundant of text of the stored message, determining that a minimum threshold of consecutive matching characters has been reached, and displaying the received message with the consecutive matching characters at least partially hidden from view.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2011Date of Patent: November 21, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Alicia Thorsen, Karl Hsu, Simon Bovet, Neil Jhaveri, Nick Woods, Brendan Langoulant, Jonathan Michael Deutsch, Angela Guzman, Stephen O. Patent number: 8935335Abstract: Stationery templates for electronic messages are provided in an electronic messaging system. For one embodiment, a user can select from a list of categories and within each category is a set of one or more stationery templates from which a user can choose. The user may edit the stationery template. The user can also create custom stationery and share it with other users. Upon selection or creation of a stationery template, the user is presented with a formatted electronic message and can add, remove, or edit text content or replace media content. Alternatively, a stationery template can be changed or added to the electronic message after the user has begun composing and editing the text content. The content and format of the text and media components are carried over into the new template. When the message is sent, it is saved and transmitted in a format such that it can be rendered to look the same at the receiving machine.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2006Date of Patent: January 13, 2015Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Stephen Lemay, Gregory Christie, Bas Ording, Brendan Langoulant, Scott Forstall, Judy Halchin

Patent number: 8261197Abstract: Methods and systems for managing To do items and/or notes and/or emails (or other electronic messages) are described. On exemplary method includes receiving an input to create a To do item based on a portion of an email record, such as a received email, and creating, in response to the input, the To do item. Another exemplary method includes storing a note having a To do item in the note, the note being stored as an entry in a note database which is separate from a To do database and storing the To do item in the To do database and receiving an input within either a note view or a To do view to edit the To do item and causing the note to be edited and causing the To do item to be edited in response to the input.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2006Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Stephen Lemay, Scott Forstall, Brendan Langoulant, Gregory Christie

Patent number: 8065392Abstract: Displaying web feed contents into email messages. A web feed manager formats web feed contents from a web feed to allow a user on the email client application to read web feed contents as email messages with all the controls typically provided by the email client application for an email message, such as displays with threading views and folders for saving messages. In one implementation, web feed contents archived by the email client remains linked to the web feed manager such that the archived content is updated with new content as received.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2007Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Sarah Anne Wilkin, Brendan Langoulant, Ricci Edward Adams, Scott James Forstall

Publication number: 20080307077Abstract: A technique of configuring an email client application to set up a user's email account on the email client application. In one embodiment, the email client application requests the user to input an email address and a password and based on the email address, the email client application determines the corresponding email server providing the email service. Then, the email client searches stored information regarding the email service or server and automatically sets up an email account based on the stored information.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2007Publication date: December 11, 2008Inventors: Brendan Langoulant, Ricci Edward Adams, Scott James Forstall
