Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for transmitting and displaying a live, streaming video on a virtual reality headset are disclosed. For example, one method includes receiving, via a transceiver, a foreground portion, or a first subset, of a live video feed at a first frame rate from each camera of the at least one stereoscopic pair of cameras, wherein the foreground portion comprises a first portion of a scene captured by each camera. The method further includes receiving, via the transceiver, a background portion, or a second subset, of the live video feed at a second frame rate from each camera, wherein the background portion comprises a second portion of the scene. The method further includes storing the background portion in a memory. The method further includes combining the received foreground portion with the stored background portion to create a combined video frame. The method further includes displaying at least a portion of the combined video frame on the virtual reality display.
