    Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing information to an operator of a device, such as a currency dispensing machine, is disclosed. The apparatus includes a surface, for example a keypad, that is touched by an operator. The keys of the keypad vibrate in response to an input signal. By reference to a reference location, a centrally located key, the vibration indicates to the operator a direction. Variation in the intensity or duration of vibration pulses is also used to indicate distance or can be used to provide other information.
