  • Patent number: 11548650
Abstract: A hybrid airship (drone, UAV) capable of significantly extended flight times can use one of two technologies, or both together. The first technology uses a combination of a lifting gas (such as hydrogen or helium) in a central volume or balloon and multirotor technology for lift and maneuvering. The second technology equips the airship with an on board generator to charge the batteries during flight for extended flight operations, with an internal combustion engine (such as a high power to weight ratio gas turbine engine) driving the generator. A quadcopter or other multicopter configuration is desirable.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 25, 2017
Date of Patent: January 10, 2023

  • Patent number: 7520665
Abstract: A marine instrument, such as a clock, barometer, or thermometer, has a face having indicia associated with the face, an instrument movement, and at least one hand having a direct or indirect connection to the movement and positioned to move with respect to the face, or a display connected to an electronic movement. The components are encased within a casing that is water tight to at least 12 inches (e.g. about 30 feet) of water. A vent, such as a porous plastic plug, allows the passage of air in and out of a substantially water-tight volume containing the movement, but precludes water passage up to the rated pressure.

  • Patent number: 7493813
Abstract: An instrument [particularly barometer ]movement includes a plurality of elements including a pressure transducer capable of sensing barometric pressure and converting the sensed pressure into electric signals, a stepper motor having an hour shaft used in a conventional quartz clock movement, a microprocessor, and a battery, operatively connected together so that the microprocessor controls movement of the stepper motor with power supplied by the battery in response changes in atmospheric pressure sensed by the pressure transducer; and a housing mounting the plurality of elements with the motor shaft extending outwardly from the housing. Other transducers, such as temperature or humidity, may alternatively be utilized. Other d.c. motors with positional feedback may sometimes alternatively be used in place of the stepper motor. The movement is operatively connected to a pointer (which may be much larger and heavier than in conventional analog instruments) which is accurately moved by the d.c.

  • Patent number: 6568334
Abstract: A video game stand facilitates utilization of a control mechanism (such as a steering wheel and steering column connected to a controller), making it easier to play the video game, and in some situations making a home video game much like an arcade game. A controller mounting platform has a substantially flat top surface and is supported by a mechanical support frame constructed so that the height of the platform from the floor may be readily adjusted. The video game control mechanism is positioned on the platform by cooperating hook and loop fasteners, an adaptor having a cavity which securely fits a video game control mechanism, and/or an elastic or substantially inelastic belt.

  • Patent number: 6283873
Abstract: A putting cup may be used not only to practice putting, but also as a promotional item, having a transparent element closing off a depression in the body of the putting cup, and with a printed sheet visible through the transparent element. The printing on the sheet may be promotional indicia, such as promoting a company, product, etc., and the putting cup may be disassembled so as to allow replacement of the printed sheet. A ramp leads up from a surface on which the putting cup is mounted to a depression in the body, which will retain a golf ball therein.

  • Patent number: 6169932
Abstract: A method of producing an instrument face having functional indicia thereon (such as a clock face dial, thermometer face, etc.), allows-high quality, multicolor instrument faces to be produced in a cost effective manner even for small runs (e.g. 1-500 units). The instrument face is created in a computer in electronic format, and the computer transmits electronic signals to a color photocopier, to control it to print the instrument face on a sheet of paper. The sheet of paper may be laminated to a more rigid sheet, e.g. styrene, cardboard, acrylic or plexiglass, and then an instrument face of the appropriate geometric shape and size is cut from the sheet material. The face is assembled with other functional components to produce an operable instrument. The cutting is preferably practiced automatically utilizing a laser cutter under the control of the computer. A scanner or CD ROM may be utilized for inputting data into the computer.

  • Patent number: 6109583
Abstract: A tabletop item, such as a coaster, trivet, or ashtray, is inexpensively constructed yet can have significant aesthetic appeal. The item includes a first substantially transparent component having an inner surface and an outer surface, a second component comprising a piece of sheet material (such as paper) having first and second faces and multicolor indicia on at least the first face, and a third component comprising a base having an inner surface and an outer surface with a plurality of feet-receiving openings. A plurality of feet of non-scratch material extend through the feet receiving openings of the third component exteriorly thereof to support the tabletop item on a surface substantially without scratching the surface. The components are held together so that second component is disposed (e.g. sandwiched) between the inner surface of the first and third components.

  • Patent number: 5842574
Abstract: A craft package for making a three dimensional utilitarian object, such as an instrument face, includes a first package portion of rigid transparent PVC with a wall thickness of between about 0.30-0.60 inches having a mold-shaped interior in the configuration or reverse configuration of a three dimensional object. A second package portion is fixed to the first package portion to form a container having an interior, and the second package portion is preferably another rigid plastic element having a mold-shaped interior in the configuration or reverse configuration of a second three dimensional object. A moldable material, such as plaster of paris, dry quick setting cementitious material, or a synthetic polymer curable at a temperature lower than the degradation temperature of the first package portion, is disposed in non-activated form within the container interior, and is of sufficient volume to form one of the three dimensional objects.
