  • Patent number: 6563618
Abstract: Prior art attempts to reduce the power consumption demands of dual infrared transceiver laptop computer designs have.included enabling and disabling infrared ports at the user level. This solution requires the computer user to be involved in decision making with respect to infrared peripheral device discovery, and adds complexity to the overall infrared communications experience. Post connection dual IrDA port power management implements the infrared transceiver power down decision making in software, based upon activity inputs from the infrared link controller. Minor changes to the link controller at its device driver improve the user experience and the power consumption in dual IrDA port configurations.

  • Patent number: 6078475
Abstract: The rotary actuator comprises a transducer head connected to an E-block, a base, and a rotating data-storage disk journalled to the base. In addition, the rotary actuator comprises a top plate having a first pivot bearing socket, a bottom plate having a second pivot bearing socket, and a pivot shaft. The first pivot bearing socket is placed oppositely facing the second pivot bearing socket defining an axis therebetween. The pivot shaft is mounted between the first pivot bearing socket and the second pivot bearing socket along the defined axis, wherein the pivot shaft is embedded within a pivot center of the E-block having an axis of rotation for incrementally rotationally positioning the transducer head at data locations defined on a surface of the rotating data-storage disk. The axis of rotation of the E-block being generally coaxial to the defined axis of both bearing sockets.

  • Patent number: 5654875
Abstract: A disk drive has an improved vibration isolator mounting apparatus for dampening the impacts and vibrations applied to the body of a computer while occupying only a minimal amount of space in the disk drive. The disk drive generally includes a magnetic disk drive mechanism enclosed by a disk drive enclosure, with an electronic card physically connected to the enclosure that electrically connects the disk drive to other components of the computer. Two sides of the disk drive enclosure extend beyond the top face of the disk drive enclosure to form two enclosure skirts. A vibration isolator mounting apparatus is mounted to each enclosure skirt. Each vibration isolator mounting apparatus has a flat, thin flexible strip overlying the free edge of the enclosure skirt with several retaining tabs depending downward from opposite sides of the strip.
