  • Publication number: 20140352703
Abstract: One aspect of the present disclosure relates a protective eye cup that protects a small animal's eye from developing an ocular opacity in the refractive lens during a vision research experiment. The protective eye cup can include at least a dome and a shoulder. The dome can be shaped with an outer geometry configured to facilitate placement and removal of the protective eye cup. The dome can also be shaped with a hemispherical inner geometry with a height and a radius selected to cover the eye. The inner geometry can define a hollow reservoir configured to hold the eye and an associated hydrating fluid when positioned on the eye. The shoulder can provide a radial edge to the dome that increases a contact surface area of the portion of the dome in contact with the hydrating fluid. The protective eye cup can attach to a region external to the eye based on a surface tension of the hydrating fluid.

  • Patent number: 8485955
Abstract: An automatic handle attaching method for precisely securing a plastic handle on an edge of a preformed plastic bag is described. A delivery conveyor for conveying spaced-apart groups of flat plastic bags with each group having two or more bags disposed one on top of the other and offset along a leading straight edge thereof which is oriented approximately transverse to a conveying direction of a conveyor. A bag handling mechanism has an orientable bag engaging hand secured to an articulated arm to orient the bag engaging hand in alignment with a top one of the groups of bags to transfer the bag to a handle securing station where the bag handle is welded thereto. After the handle is welded its relationship with respect to other parts of the bag is verified.

  • Patent number: 8137253
Abstract: An automatic handle attaching system and method for precisely securing a plastic handle on an edge of a preformed plastic bag is described. The system comprises a delivery conveyor for conveying spaced-apart groups of flat plastic bags with each group having two or more bags disposed one on top of the other and offset along a leading straight edge thereof which is oriented approximately transverse to a conveying direction of a conveyor. Two or more automated bag handling mechanisms are disposed spaced-apart adjacent the conveyor at respective bag transfer stations. Each of the bag handling mechanisms are independently operated and have an orientable bag engaging hand secured to an articulated arm.

  • Publication number: 20050240211
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and methods for selectably assessing a fallopian tube. The apparatus is a device that allows for treatment and/or the assessment of the patency of each fallopian tube independently by isolating at least one cornual regions from the uterine cavity. The method of the present invention is based on use of the device and allows for assessment of fallopian tube patency without the use of dyes of x-rays.

  • Patent number: 6565557
Abstract: A sterilization device (10) is provided having a flexible housing element (12) that is smaller in diameter than the diameter of the lumen of the isthmic portion of the fallopian tube, a heating element (14) carried by the housing element adjacent to its distal end, and an energy source (18) coupled to the heating element such that when the energy source is energized the temperature of the heating element will be increased. A procedure is described for inserting the sterilization device (10) through the uterus and into the isthmic portion of the fallopian tube where the heating element (14) is energized and the heat generated destroys the mucosal layer and damages the muscular layer of the fallopian tube wall inducing sufficient scarification to occlude the fallopian tube.
