  • Patent number: 10601493
Abstract: Method for discovering the presence of a communication node which seeks participation in a radio communication network. The method involves receiving with a first directional antenna a first signal from a late entrant node (LEN) concurrent with a radio network communication session (RNCS). Digital data processing gain is applied to the first signal to facilitate detection of a digital data sequence. A time difference of arrival (TDOA) analysis is performed if the digital data sequence transmitted from the late entrant node is also detected in a second signal contemporaneously received at a second directional antenna. The TDOA analysis is used to estimate at least one beam-steering vector.

  • Patent number: 9780910
Abstract: The digital video communications device includes a scalable video coding (SVC) controller including an encoder and associated block equalizer. The encoder is configured to receive digital video, and encode received digital video into a plurality of related streams including a base layer having a first modulation type, and scaled enhancement layers having different modulation types. The block equalizer is configured to generate a waveform by sequentially interleaving the plurality of related streams with equalizer probes. The digital video transmission approach allows the receiver to automatically provide the best video quality that the channel will support without negotiation with the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 9322921
Abstract: A communications device includes a housing, an antenna carried by the housing, an oscillator carried by the housing to generate a reference signal, and an RF receiver carried by the housing, and coupled to the antenna and the oscillator, the RF receiver demodulating a received signal from the antenna based upon the reference signal. The communications device also includes a GPS receiver carried by the housing to generate a calibration signal, a temperature sensor carried by the housing to generate a sensed temperature value, and a processor carried by the housing and coupled to the oscillator, the RF receiver, the GPS receiver, and the temperature sensor. The processor may enter an oscillator calibration mode based upon the sensed temperature value for selectively calibrating the oscillator based upon the calibration signal.

  • Patent number: 8074145
Abstract: A software-defined radio includes a radio circuit and an executable radio software system operable with the radio circuit and conforming to the software communications architecture (SCA) specification and defining an operating environment that allows a waveform application to operate with the radio circuit for transmitting and receiving voice and data. A write-protected non-volatile memory is operable with the radio circuit and executable radio software system. The non-volatile memory has a write enable controlled by a non-driver program for deferring a wear leveling correction sequence.
