    Abstract: A surface protection device and a method for mounting the same on a terminal end of a furniture leg are provided. The surface protection device is defined by a furniture glide including a furniture glide base having an upper surface directable towards the terminal end of the furniture leg and a lower surface interconnected by an outer periphery. A fastener extends from the furniture glide base along an axis and has a first end and a second end receivable in the terminal end of the furniture leg for frictionally connecting the furniture glide base to the furniture leg. A cup has an outer surface and an inner surface defining a cavity for receiving the furniture glide base therein. Matted material is molded into the outer surface of the cup.

The flange movable between a first position wherein the flange lies in a first plane generally parallel to a first surface of the central portion and a second position wherein the flange is generally perpendicular to the first plane and defines a cavity in the covering for receiving the hatch door therein.

One of the two layers includes a pigment such that the layer resembles teak. A surface of the colored layer is at least partly abraded to resemble a wood grain. The surface covering may additionally include grooves cut into the surface to resemble individual wood planks. The grooves additionally provide traction and drainage of liquid from the surface to an edge of the covering.

Side portions of the first layer wrap around the base portion of the chair to easily attach the furniture glide to the chair.

A retaining leg extends from the lower edge of the face plate. The retaining leg moveable between a closed position wherein the terminal end of the retaining leg engages the inner surface of the backing plate and an open position wherein the retaining leg is spaced from the inner surface of the backing plate. The inner surface of the backing plate, the inner surface of the face plate and the inner surface of the upper wall define a cavity for receiving a portion of the sheet.
