    Abstract: A voice activated method of establishing a Push-to-Talk (PTT) connection from a mobile phone is disclosed. The mobile phone user presses and holds a PTT key on the mobile phone. The user then speaks the name of a contact. The mobile phone recognizes the name of a contact that has been spoken and associates the recognized name with an entry in the mobile phone's memory. The mobile phone then displays the name of the contact on its display. The user can then speak additional contact names or can release the PTT key. Upon release of the PTT key, the mobile phone initiates a PTT connection from the mobile phone to the contact(s) displayed. The mobile phone uses PTT contact data in the mobile phone's memory associated with the contact name to make the PTT connection. The name of a contact may also comprise a group name that is associated with multiple contacts.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method of requesting content from a mobile broadcast service provider wherein the mobile broadcast service provider maintains a variety of content offerings that can be broadcast to a portable mobile communications device. One method comprises creating a subscription profile on the portable mobile communications device that includes requested content from the content offered by the mobile broadcast service provider. The subscription profile is sent to the mobile broadcast service provider so that the mobile broadcast service provider can aggregate the requested content onto a plurality of time multiplexed channels. The plurality of time multiplexed channels are then broadcast to the portable mobile communications device. The portable mobile communications device then de-multiplexes the time multiplexed channels of requested content to display the requested content.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus improves the visibility of information displayed on a portable electronic device display in various ambient lighting conditions. The portable electronic device measures the ambient light associated with the display and adjusts the display based on the measured ambient light to improve the visibility of the displayed information. In an exemplary embodiment, light detection electronics detect the ambient light associated with the display. A light processor processes the raw data to determine the measured ambient light based on the detected ambient light. A display controller of the portable electronic device adjusts the display based on the measured ambient light. An exemplary display controller may adjust the size of the displayed information, a backlight intensity of the display, or a display contrast based on the measured ambient light.

    Abstract: A way of storing and forwarding the content of a cellular conference call is described. A conference call is conducted among a group. The network is responsible for recording and storing the conference call. The network also determines which mobile telephone devices associated with group members did not participate in the conference call. The network automatically composes and sends a message to the mobile telephone devices of the group members that did not participate in the conference call. The message contains information indicating that a conference call took place and is available to be downloaded from the network for replay. In another implementation, a mobile telephone is responsible for recording and storing the conference call. The mobile telephone also determines which mobile telephone devices did not participate in the conference call. The mobile telephone device composes and sends an MMS message to the group members that did not participate in the conference call.

    Abstract: In a mobile terminal including at least two CPUs and a shared memory resource, a CPU executing real-time code has priority access to the memory over a CPU executing non-real-time code. In one embodiment, real-time code and non-real-time code are located in separate regions of logical memory, and a memory management unit between the CPUs and the shared memory resource partially decodes the address of a memory access request, granting higher priority access to the CPU executing real-time code. In another embodiment, each CPU provides a priority signal upon requesting access to the shared memory resource, and access is granted according to the requested priorities.

The method includes the steps of determining if a most recent registration of the mobile terminal was accomplished in the satellite or terrestrial mode and, if it is determined that the most recent registration of the mobile terminal was accomplished in the terrestrial mode, then determining if (1) a satellite operator ID broadcast by the satellite system matches a satellite operator ID from a most recent satellite location update of the mobile terminal, and (2) a satellite beam pair in a satellite spotbeam pair list broadcast by the satellite system matches a satellite beam pair in a satellite spotbeam ID from a most recent satellite location update of the mobile terminal.

    Abstract: A multi-mode mobile terminal having a subscriber identity is provided which uses knowledge of communications network supported service levels to navigate to a communication mode allowing the greatest possible service availability when the subscriber identity in at least one of the network modes is invalid. The mobile terminal may not only provide the ability to switch communication service from a current mode to an alternative mode to process emergency calls but may also restrict user operations on a communications network based on the services available without a valid subscriber identity. Operations of the mobile terminal invention may be supported by service level information on various communication service providers contained in memory within the mobile terminal or be obtained by the mobile terminal from the networks.
