  • Patent number: 7630346
Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention comprises transmitting a broadcast burst in a broadcast channel from a base station of a radio communications system. The invention further comprises receiving a request burst from a user terminal, and transmitting a message burst from the base station to the user terminal from which the request was received. The message burst includes a description of the channels available on the radio communications system for receiving messages from user terminals.

  • Publication number: 20090089639
Abstract: A method and apparatus of providing ARQ feedback is disclosed. A first step of one method includes a transmitter transmitting ARQ blocks. A second step includes a receiver transmitting ARQ feedback messages, wherein each ARQ feedback message includes a time reference that indicates a transmission time of a latest transmission burst accounted for in the ARQ feedback message.

  • Publication number: 20090059801
Abstract: Methods of managing storage of HARQ packets are disclosed. One method includes a wireless device receiving variable length HARQ packets. The wireless device performing an error check on each received variable length HARQ packet, and storing within HARQ memory the HARQ packets that fail the error check. Each failed HARQ packet is stored in the HARQ memory by dividing the HARQ packet into HARQ sub-packets, and storing each HARQ sub-packet. The storage locations and storage order of each of the HARQ sub-packets are recorded for future retrieval.

  • Patent number: 7420984
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses associated with multi-phase wireless handshaking. A user terminal enters handshaking with an access point. The access point may respond to an access request of the user terminal with an access assignment, and alternatively, with a message indicating an assignment will not be presently given. The handshaking process could then be completed at a later time.

  • Patent number: 7411977
Abstract: A wireless communication device monitors a radio frequency (RF) resource for a signal from a remote terminal. The wireless communications device detects the absence of the signal in the monitored RF resource. If the signal is not present in the RF resource, the wireless communications device reallocates processing resources reserved to process the signal to process data from another remote terminal.

  • Publication number: 20080123544
Abstract: Methods and systems for estimating Temporal Correlation (TC) of a propagation channel are provided. In an embodiment, a method for estimating the TC of the propagation channel comprises obtaining multiple channel quality reports of the propagation channel and estimating the TC of the propagation channel based on the multiple channel quality reports.

  • Patent number: 7349371
Abstract: Embodiment of the present invention can be used to select random access channels to be assigned to user terminals. In one embodiment, the invention includes a base station receiving a signal from a second radio, the received signal containing information about the second radio, and selecting one or more channels to be used by the second radio for random access to the base station using the information about the second radio. Then the base station sends a signal to the second radio, the sent signal containing information about the selected one or more channels.

  • Publication number: 20070263739
Abstract: A method and system for managing memory using Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request in a communication system is provided. The method includes storing a retransmitted burst in a memory. The retransmitted burst includes plurality of bits. One or more of memory address of the retransmitted burst and the information corresponding to the retransmitted burst is recorded in a location table. The location table records memory addresses and the information corresponding to a plurality of bursts stored in the memory. The method further includes determining one or more preceding bursts corresponding to the retransmitted burst stored in the memory using location table. Thereafter, a combined burst is generated using the retransmitted burst and one or more preceding burst, if one or more preceding bursts corresponding to the retransmitted burst are stored in the memory. The combined burst includes the plurality of bits.

  • Publication number: 20070015544
Abstract: A communication system is described in which a receiver allocated to a sector of a communication network receives signals via all antennas of the network regardless of the sector allocation of the antenna. The system includes multiple antennas configured to form numerous antenna sets. Each antenna set is allocated to one of a number of sectors of a communication network. The system includes numerous modems or receivers, and each modem is coupled to an antenna set of a sector. The system includes a memory device coupled to the modems. The memory device includes signal processing information shared among the modems of the system. The signal processing information allows each modem to receive communications from subscriber stations in any sector via any of the system receive antennas.

  • Publication number: 20060176882
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of providing an early indication of at least one burst allocation made for at least one subscriber station by allocating a predetermined number of bits representing the early indication. The invention also provides a method for generating the predetermined number of bits for providing the early indication by determining whether the subscriber station has the allocation in a current frame and setting a related bit in the predetermined numbers of bits to a predetermined value when an allocation is made for the subscriber station.
