  • Patent number: 9140102
Abstract: Systems for determining hydraulic fracture geometry and/or areal extent of an area of interest in a reservoir, are provided. An embodiment of a system can include downhole acoustic receiver equipment isolated from fracturing operations in a lower portion of a first wellbore, and fracturing equipment located in a second wellbore connected to the first wellbore. Communications between surface equipment in the downhole acoustic receiver equipment is provided through a communications conduit bypass that permits well operations in the second wellbore without interfering with communications between the surface equipment and the downhole acoustic receiver equipment.

  • Patent number: 8800668
Abstract: A method, system and apparatus is provided for a partially retrievable safety valve to control a well. The method includes securing a normally closed valve in the well. The valve may be a self-equalizing flapper valve. Following this, an actuator system operable to open the valve is run into the well. The actuator system is removable from the well while the valve remains closed and secured in the well. A submersible pump and motor may be secured to the actuator system before the actuator system is run into the well. The submersible pump and motor are also removable from the well while the valve remains closed and secured in the well. Therefore the actuator system, submersible pump and motor can be replaced or redressed, while the valve remains closed, keeping the well under control at all times.

  • Publication number: 20090314498
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for securement of lines to downhole well tools. A method of securing one or more lines to a well tool includes the steps of: installing the one or more lines in a groove formed longitudinally along an outer surface of the well tool, the groove having a width at the outer surface of the well tool which is narrower than a width of the groove at a position radially inward relative to the outer surface; and securing the one or more lines in the groove. A well tool includes a groove formed longitudinally along an outer surface of an outer housing of the well tool. The groove has a width at the outer surface of the well tool which is narrower than a width of the groove at a position radially inward relative to the outer surface. One or more lines are secured in the groove.

  • Patent number: 5979558
Abstract: A flow control apparatus and associated methods of using provide enhanced longevity and reliability without requiring complex mechanisms. In a described embodiment, a choke for use within a subterranean well has a choke member set which may be opened by manipulation of an inner tubular cage. The inner cage is displaced from within an outer sleeve, which restricts fluid flow through ports formed through a sidewall portion of the inner cage. As the inner cage is progressively withdrawn from within the sleeve, the fluid flow through the ports is decreasingly restricted by the sleeve.
