Patent number: 9140166Abstract: A reductant dosing system for an engine is disclosed. The disclosed reductant dosing system includes a reservoir of reductant fluid that is connected to an inlet of a reductant pump. The pump has an outlet that is fluidly connected to the reservoir, an inlet of a pressure regulator and an inlet of an injector. The pressure regulator includes a reductant pressure control valve that fluidly connects the outlet of the reductant pump to the reservoir when the reductant pressure control valve is in an open position. A compressed gas source is fluidly connected to an air supply control valve that fluidly connects the compressed gas source to the reservoir when the air supply control valve is in an open position. The air supply control valve also has a closed position and is shifted between the open and closed positions by a controller.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2014Date of Patent: September 22, 2015Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Bryan Edward Nelson, Kevin L. Publication number: 20150260069Abstract: A fluid delivery system includes a reservoir, a pump, an injector, and a pressure regulator. The reservoir encloses a fluid and includes a reservoir body forming a reservoir volume that encloses the fluid. The reservoir includes a draw conduit and a return conduit. The pump has an inlet connected to the draw conduit and provides fluid at the operating pressure and at a desired flow to a pressure line that is fluidly connected to an outlet of the pump. The injector selectively opens to allow an injected fluid flow to pass therethrough. The return orifice fluidly connects the pressure line with the return conduit, and the pressure regulator provides a regulated fluid flow to the fluid reservoir. During operation, the desired fluid flow is equal to a sum of the injected fluid flow, the return fluid flow and the regulated fluid flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 17, 2014Publication date: September 17, 2015Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Kevin L. Publication number: 20140331645Abstract: A machine includes an engine having an exhaust system. A diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) injector provides metered amounts of DEF and includes a valve adapted to selectively open in response to a command. A controller associated with the engine and the DEF injector monitors operation of the DEF injector to detect a fault and activates a failure remediation cycle when the fault has been detected. The remediation cycle includes heating the exhaust gas to heat the DEF injector and melt any urea crystals that may be causing the fault, and activating the valve of the DEF injector to evacuate molten urea from within the DEF injector.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 13, 2013Publication date: November 13, 2014Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Brian Cole, Matthew F. Publication number: 20140182044Abstract: A garment has a pocket with an opening located at the waistband of the garment. A strap includes a stretchy membrane and at least one of the opposite ends of the strap extends into openings in the garment to form a horizontal pocket opening. The strap may be made of an elastic material. A fabric can conceal part of the strap and may surround or be attached to the strap. The pocket lining has front and rear walls attached together, with top horizontal portions of the front and rear wall attached behind an exposed portion of the strap. The walls of the pocket lining may be attached to two join seams of the garment. Stretching the strap outwards will open the pocket thus accessing belongings stored therein. When the pocket is closed, the elastic material of the strap provides stretch and recoil, securing any belongings safely inside the pocket.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 2012Publication date: July 3, 2014Inventor: Brian Cole

Publication number: 20140130566Abstract: A hydraulic expander for use in a tube containing a U-bend region is disclosed and claimed. The tool includes a sheath for transmitting hydraulic fluid therethrough to an inflatable bladder. The sheath is flexible, allowing it to be inserted through the U-bend region of the tube. The bladder is fluidly connected to the sheath and is thereby in fluid communication with a supply of hydraulic fluid. The length of the bladder and the metal end caps, along with the centering spacers on the expansion sheath, allows it to pass through the U-bend region of the tube such that it can be positioned inside the tube adjacent to a support outside the tube, such as an AVB. Hydraulic expansion of the bladder causes it to exert an outward force on the tube inner surface, causing it to plastically deform such that its outer surface comes into contact with the tube support, such as an AVB. This expansion will increase the friction between the tube and the AVB to minimize the risk of tube vibration damage.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2013Publication date: May 15, 2014Inventors: Bruce William Schafer, Jeffrey Lee Snow, Benjamin Joseph Hefner, Brian Cole Claiborne

Patent number: 8596897Abstract: The functionality and design of this pen is two-fold. The first, lower component is used as a writing implement and the second, upper component is the compartment/housing unit of the lip balm cartridge. The bottom portion of the pen houses the ink cartridge and the mechanical components of the pen. The pen tip is retractable. The upper portion of the pen is the housing chamber for the lip balm. The snap-in design allows a lip balm cartridge to be loaded and unloaded from the pen. Both halves of the pen, top and bottom are connected. Twisting the pen at the union of the lower and upper components releases and retracts the pen tip. The uniqueness of this invention is its' dual usage, one as a pen and the other as a lip balm housing unit.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2011Date of Patent: December 3, 2013Inventor: Matthew Brian Cole

Patent number: 7252323Abstract: A vehicle body includes a first door member and an opening/closing mechanism. The first door member can rotate between a first position in which it covers the part of a opening of a storage section and a second position in which it opens the part of the opening. The opening/closing mechanism that rotates the first door member includes a rotation shaft that supports the first door member. The rotation shaft is disposed at a position in which the first door member does not come out from a rotation area overlapping the first door member that is in the first position vertically when the first door member rotates. The opening/closing mechanism moves the first door member up to a third position in which the first door member does not interfere with a vehicle main body when the first door member rotates between the first position and the second position.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2005Date of Patent: August 7, 2007Assignees: Mitsubishi Jidosha Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha, Johnson Controls IncorporatedInventors: Brian Cole, Mark Kaiser, Dean Trexel, Hitendra Gadhiya, Jagmail Singh Cheema

Patent number: 7245424Abstract: A device amplifies light at wavelengths in the vicinity of 1420-1530 nm, using thulium doped silica-based optical fiber. This wavelength band is of interest as it falls in the low-loss optical fiber telecommunications window, and is somewhat shorter in wavelength than the currently standard erbium doped silica fiber amplifier. The device thus extends the band of wavelengths which can be supported for long-distance telecommunications. The additional wavelength band allows the data transmission rate to be substantially increased via wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), with minimal modification to the standard equipment currently used for WDM systems. The host glass is directly compatible with standard silica-based telecommunications fiber. The invention also enables modified silicate based amplifiers and lasers on a variety of alternative transitions. Specifically, an S-band thulium doped fiber amplifier (TDFA) using a true silicate fiber host is described.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2005Date of Patent: July 17, 2007Assignee: United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Michael Dennis, Brian Cole
