    Abstract: The swathboard of a windrower can be remotely adjusted from the tractor seat and on-the-go using an electromechanical actuator or other remotely operated actuating device. When the swathboard is adjusted to its fully raised position, the stream of crop materials issuing from the conditioner rolls bypasses the swathboard and engages the forming shields to be converged into a windrow having a width determined by the outlet formed between the rear ends of the shields. At the other extreme, when the swathboard is fully lowered, the stream impinges against the swathboard and drops to the ground in a wide swath without ever engaging the forming shields. In any one of a number of intermediate positions, the swathboard can be used by the operator to deflect the stream to engage wider or narrower portions of the forming shields, thus controlling the width of the windrow.

    Abstract: An electronic news receiving device receives text data for an electronic edition of a newspaper in the evening and audibly reads the newspaper to the user the next day. The newsreader includes a receiver which receives an electronic edition of a newspaper transmitted by a transmitter at an electronic news preparer's facility. The news preparer may mark words that do not conform to conventional letter-to-sound rules with a pronunciation flag and provide pronunciation data for the words with the electronic edition of the newspaper. The data may be compressed by providing a dictionary in the news receiving device and, at the preparer's facility, translating each word into a dictionary address. The transmission channel may include a telephone line, the vertical blanking interval of a television signal, a cable television channel, an AM/FM subcarrier signal or a satellite channel.

    Abstract: This invention includes a speech training system that allows a student to enter any utterance to be learned and have the articulatory model movements required to produce the utterance displayed on a CRT screen. The system accepts a typed utterance, breaking it down into a set of speech units which could be phonemes or syllables and the onset and offset of the speech units. The set of speech units is sent to a synthesizer, which produces a set of parameters indicating the acoustic characteristics of the utterance. The acoustic parameters are converted into articulatory parameters emphasizing the frequency and nasality required to produce the typed utterance. The speech units and onset and offset of each are used to generate tongue-palate contact patterns required to produce the typed utterance. The articulatory parameters are displayed on the CRT screen. The acoustic parameters are also sent to a formant synthesizer which converts the parameters into speech output.

    Abstract: A tail light construction comprising an outer housing having an aperture that extends therethrough. An annular resilient grommet is disposed in the aperture and a metal bulb holder is mounted within the central opening of the grommet and includes a socket which receives the base portion of a light bulb. The axis of the bulb is located at an acute angle with respect to the base of the housing. A lens encloses one end of the central opening of the grommet, while either a lens or an opaque closure plate encloses the opposite end. Electrical connectors are connected to the bulb and extend in sealed relation through the grommet and are connected to electrical leads.

    Abstract: A combination side marker, clearance and reflex lamp for a vehicle. The lamp includes a base which is adapted to be connected to a vehicle. The base is provided with a recess, and a lens in combination with the base define a bulb chamber that houses a light bulb. The base portion of the bulb extends through an opening in the base and into the recess. A pair of electrical conductors are mounted on the base and extend into the recess and are connected to the base portion of the bulb. A resin is potted in the recess to encapsulate the conductors and the base portion of the bulb. The bulb chamber is hermetically sealed to prevent contact of moisture or water with the bulb.

    Abstract: A sealed tail light assembly for a boat trailer including an outer housing and a sealed capsule is contained within the housing. The capsule is composed of a base and a transparent casing that contains a pair of light bulbs. The base is provided with a depression or well. Electrical conductors are connected to the bulbs and extend through openings in the base into the well where the ends of the conductors are connected to electrical leads. The well is filled with an electrically insulating material, such as resin, which encloses the openings in the well and encapsulates the connections between the conductors and the leads. One end of the capsule is provided with a tongue, which is received within a slot in the rear wall of the housing, while the opposite end of the capsule is formed with a lip which is captured between the lower edge of the side marker lens and the rear wall, thus enabling the capsule to be secured within the housing without the need for auxiliary connectors.

    Abstract: A submersible tail light assembly for a boat trailer. The tail light assembly includes an outer housing having an open outer end that is enclosed by a tail light lens. A transparent capsule having an open inner end is sealed to the wall of the housing, and a bulb socket that carries a light bulb is mounted on the inner wall of the housing and is located within the capsule. The electrical leads connected to the bulb socket extend through an opening in the lower portion of the inner wall of the housing. In some cases the housing may also have an open side enclosed by a side marker lens and a side marker bulb socket and bulb are mounted in the housing in alignment with the side marker lens. When the trailer light is submerged in water during launching of a boat, air is entrapped within the capsule preventing water from rising in the capsule to the level of the bulb socket and bulb. The bulb can be conveniently replaced by removing the lens and capsule from the housing.
