  • Patent number: 8613642
Abstract: Various systems, tools, and methods are described for rendering regions of coated pipe suitable for receiving press fittings. The systems, tools, and methods may also be applicable for transforming regions of pipe, coated or uncoated, and which are otherwise unsuitable for sealingly engaging press fittings, so that reliable and leak-proof seals can be made between the pipe and press fittings.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 17, 2010
Date of Patent: December 24, 2013
    Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.
Inventors: Richard R. Bowles, Paul W. Gress, Brian A. Mitchell, Robert M. Baracskai
  • Publication number: 20120042759
Abstract: A cutting tool is described. The tool engages with a standard press tool and is used for cutting brittle pipe such as cast iron soil pipe. The tool features a cutting chain assembly that is tensioned about the pipe by a pair of pivotally moveable arms.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 18, 2010
    Publication date: February 23, 2012
    Applicant: EMERSON ELECTRIC CO.
    Inventor: Brian A. Mitchell
  • Publication number: 20110197451
Abstract: A cutting tool is disclosed which can be used in conjunction with a press tool, and in particular, a hydraulically operated hand held press tool. The cutting tool is selectively engaged with the press tool such that upon operation of the press tool, a cutting blade is pivoted past a wire or cable supporting cradle region to thereby cut or otherwise sever the wire or cable.

  • Patent number: 7979980
Abstract: A press frame for attaching connectors to workpieces such as cables and pipes is described. The press frame is adapted to be releasably attached to a hand-held, battery powered press tool. The press frame includes selectively interchangeable components that enable a wide range of different styles, sizes, and configurations of electrical connectors to be attached to cables.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 3, 2008
Date of Patent: July 19, 2011
    Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.

  • Publication number: 20080289394
Abstract: A jaw arm for an associated compression tool having cam rollers that displace forwardly and rearwardly along an axis to pivot the jaw arm includes a recess and a notch. The recess is disposed adjacent a forward end of the jaw arm. The notch is axially spaced rearwardly from the recess. The recess is configured to receive an associated pipe and an associated coupling for compressing at least one of the associated pipe and the associated coupling to mechanically attach the associated pipe to the associated coupling when the jaw arm is pivotally displaced toward at least one of the associated pipe and the associated coupling. The notch is configured to receive an associated cam roller of the associated compression tool and to retain the associated cam roller to inhibit axial rearward movement of the associated cam roller when the associated cam roller has been received in the notch. A pressing tool and a jaw set incorporating the aforementioned jaw arm is also disclosed.
