  • Patent number: 4627662
Abstract: A tilting mechanism for a chair includes a stationary support frame member for connection to an upright chair column, a seat frame member for mounting a seat portion of the chair, and a backrest frame member for mounting a backrest portion of the chair. The seat frame member defines a downwardly directed channel and respective horizontal pivots between parallel sides of the channel to pivotally mount the seat frame member to the support frame member, and the backrest frame member to the seat frame member, allowing the tilt of the seat and the backrest to be adjusted. The support frame member and the backrest member are connected by links to respective toothed quadrant members pivotally mounted in the channel.
