  • Patent number: 5272807
Abstract: A connector (10) having two rows of signal terminals (20) is easily terminated to conductors (106) of discrete wires (14) by providing rear sections (28) of the terminals extending from the front housing member (30). A wire-carrying subassembly (130) having the discrete wires secured thereto is moved against the rear (36) of the front housing member (30) to place stripped conductor portions (108) adjacent the rear terminal sections (28) to be soldered. The wire-carrying subassembly (130) includes a body member (50) having upper and lower arrays of axial grooves (56) therealong between a front support ledge (60) and a rear support section (62), and upper and lower forward and rearward clamping bars (72,82) securable to the body member () to clamp the wires (14) thereto by clamping insulated end portions (104) forwardly of stripped conductor portions (108) within the grooves (56) and insulated wire portions behind the grooves, with the rear terminal sections (28) receivable into the grooves.

  • Patent number: 4925401
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly 1 for electrical conductors 6 and a strain relief for the conductors 6, corresponding conductors 6 project from opposite first and second sides 4 of an insulative housing block 2 of the connector assembly 1, conductive electrical terminals inside the housing block 2 connected to corresponding conductors 6, duplicate first and second strain relief clamps latch to each other and clamp therebetween corresponding conductors 6 to provide the strain relief, and each of the clamps comprises, a clamping surface 23 elongated along a corresponding one of the sides 3 of the housing block 2, a first arm 24 projecting from a first end 25 of the clamping surface 23, a projecting first pivot surface 26 on the arm 24 received in a recess 33 in a corresponding end of the housing block 2 for pivoting the clamping surface 23 toward and against corresponding conductors 6, a concave portion 28 of the clamping surface 23 adjacent the first arm 24, a convex portion 30 of the clamping surface 23 for

  • Patent number: 4682391
Abstract: Cable harness manufacturing apparatus comprises a pair of rails defining a linear path through a workstation where a press terminates ribbon cable to connectors in connector receiving fixtures independently journaled to the rails. A first stop on the path positions connectors sequentially at the workstation while a series of second stops along the path downstream of the workstation act on the lead fixture to define the length of cable between pairs of connectors as well as triggering the press for sequential terminations of connectors in remaining fixtures. A cutter carriage journaled to the rails upstream of the workstation is spring loaded to urge remaining fixtures to the workstation. A third stop along the path downstream stops the lead fixture when it is desired to cut the cable, the cut end subsequently being drawn flushly into the last connector terminated.

  • Patent number: 4570326
Abstract: A cable harness assembly apparatus has a press assembly defining a workstation and an index frame assembly moveable transversely through the workstation. A plurality of connector receiving fixtures are adjustably spaced along the index frame with a plurality of cable clamping fixtures interspersed with the connector carrying fixtures. At least one of the connector carrying fixtures is provided with cable cutting means which, when actuated, sever the cable simultaneously with termination thereof by the last connector of the harness.
